When they beat some good teams i'll believe they are again. Only team in the West with a chance at a le is L.A right now.
Man it's so compe ive, check it out
hopefully the spurs are still one of the contenders

Spurs in 3rd in the loss column, and only one behind Dallas, but of course there's still the giant 2-12 (I think that's what it is anyway) elephant in the room. We really need to not only take the Laker game, but get a double digit statement win. Is Pau gonna be back for it, does anyone know?
As for the conference standings, the west has always been compe ive but it seems it expanded even more this season, it's insane. Only 4 teams in the East would make playoffs in the west, and I'm pretty sure even the clippers would be the 8th seed in the East lol
Hornets coming back with #6 win in a row today
Yessir!
Two contenders: Los Angeles and San Antonio
Two second tier contenders: Dallas and Denver
One "could have been" contender: Portland
Houston will be rising fast now that their tough portion of the schedule is over, they have one of the easiest schedules in the league through the rest of the year.

Honestly it seems like any team in the West has a decent chance of getting far in the playoffs. I'm kind of excited.
I don't believe in seedings in the Western Conference, an 8th seed could be 1 or 2 games away from the 2nd seed come playoff times. These teams are not going to be battling for higher seedings but playoff position in terms of what team can they matchup great against etc.
There's nothing about the Spurs that say contender right now.
Sadly yes, the backcourt needs to stop dissapearing in big games.
Why not? They have good players, an excellent offence, elite rebounding, the defence is improving, Duncan is as good as ever, Manu+Parker+Dice will round into form.. they already have a very solid point differential, like 3rd or 4th in the NBA, why aren't they contenders?
Because they can't beat good teams.
Nobody in the West has Championship material written all over them. The Lakers record is deceiving, everyone else is just beating each other up. No consistency, no dominance. The road to the finals is wide open. At least for now.
You put the Lakers in a series with any Western team right now and no series goes 6 games.
You're right they'll go at least 7
The main contenders are Lakers and Spurs I believe. But other teams are not to be underestimated in the playoffs. Its indeed very compe ive by looking at the standings right now.
Spurs need to get their plays right against good teams, if they manage to do so, it will probably all revolve around the Lakers and Spurs.
They have no size. They're old. Duncan is in decline. And their record against quality compe ion is atrocious. They are not a contender.
Sounds a lot like Portland.

You beat them on christmas! Congratulations!
The only thing similar to Portland is a lack of size.
It's only getting closer as the top 5 West teams just lost games (Lakers, Mavs, Nuggs, Suns, Spurs)
While the next 5 teams just won games (Blazers,Rockets,Thunda,Hornets, Jazz)
And the Hornets have won 6 in a row.
#12 Clippas are 1 win away from +.500 and a 5 game winning streak.
There's definitely statistical evidence the spurs are contenders, but they aren't nearly where I want them.
If they have no size, who does? They have 4 capable bigs. I've already addressed this in some other thread. The Nuggets yeah, that's a team with a problem in regards to size. Old, maybe, but experience wins championships.
Of course they can beat good teams, even the worst team in the NBA can beat good teams. This can't beat good teams paranoia is nonsensical. They've played plenty of close games vs. good teams and they'll surely beat a few of them till the end of the season.
