I seem to recall you see just about every Toros' game. What the is going on with Dwayne Jones?

    7. Dwayne Jones, Austin Toros (17.4 ppg, 15.1 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 66% FG) - I hate that I had to be the one to defend Dwayne Jones, but since I ranked him highest, here goes nothing: He FREAKING SLEEPWALKS WHILE AVERAGING SEVENTEEN POINTS AND FIFTEEN FREAKING REBOUNDS! YES, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING LIKE HE'S TRYING, HE MAKES OTHER D-LEAGUER'S LOOK SO INFERIOR THAT THEY'D BE BETTER OFF TAKING THE ROCK'S ADVICE ON WHAT MOVIES TO ACT IN AS OPPOSED TO TRYING TO OUTREBOUND THIS BEHEMOTH. There, happy? I hate all that he stands for, but he's killing the D-League. He's also averaging 6.2 offensive rebounds per game.

Note the 15 rpg; and consider the following table of Dleague leaders all time:

    Season Player RPG
    2008-09 Dwayne Jones 11.94
    2007-08 Rod Benson 12.06
    2006-07 Pops Mensah-Bonsu 10.42
    2005-06 Dwayne Jones 11.69
    2004-05 James Thomas 13.33
    2003-04 Rodney Bias 10.11
    2002-03 Tang Hamilton 9.04
    2001-02 Thomas Hamilton 9.36

Has he really gotten that much better? Does he understand the Toros' system/rotations well (remember they play the same scheme as the Spurs for training purposes ie would he fit if he got called up, particularly after a trade)?

He is pretty dominant in the D-League, and he has improved some facets of his game in Austin -- like help defense and the timing of his blocks. Unfortunately there are a couple of things that seem to keep him from being a sure-fire NBA rotation player. As strong as he is, he is undersized for an NBA center, and he has neither the footspeed or range to play power forward.

Jones has been worked out by Portland and probably other teams looking for big man help, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a ten-day somewhere soon. He has worked really hard in the NBA and the D-League, but it seems like he would be a better fit in Europe.
