Mark Cuban: Dallas All-Star Weekend will make 'Super Bowl look like a bar mitzvah'

09:36 AM CST on Monday, January 25, 2010

    From Staff and Wire Reports

The New York media swarmed Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban on Sunday. But rather than talk about free agency and LeBron James, Cuban steered the conversation toward the All-Star Game.

"It literally could be the largest party weekend in the history of the United States," he said. "That's how big this thing has gotten."

The All-Star Game and its festivities will take over the Dallas area in a few weeks. The game itself is Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where a crowd of close to 100,000 is expected.

Cuban says All-Star Weekend might be bigger than the Super Bowl in a way.

"The Super Bowl, from a television perspective, is the biggest event of the year. But for attendance and partying, All-Star Weekend will make the Super Bowl look like a bar mitzvah."

Cuban also said recently he suggests a change in how fans vote for the All-Star Game. After lackluster Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson were voted by fans to be All-Star starters, Cuban suggests making electronic votes worth half as much as votes cast by fans actually attending games. Fans currently can vote once a day via the Internet or text message.

In your dreams Marky! I've never seen people throw All-star weekend parties like they do for the superbowl. You come here to South Texas, and you see a load of people buying beer, food, and drugs for the superbowl.

Mark hasn't been to many rich-folk bar/bat mitzvahs lately... Man, there was one here that absolutely rivaled the Superbowl XL insanity in Metro Detroit...

But seriously, Mark, the NBA just isn't as popular as football in the US. It sucks, but its true. Nobody will care, in part because many of the players don't care. Wish it were different.

I would agree if he were to change one word in that sentence. Change the word "Super" to "Pro" and you have something there. Even a crappy NBA All-Star game garners more attention than the Pro-Bowl.
