or....as ATRAIN calls them..."not real Pro Bowlers"

WASHINGTON (AP) -- He's Susan Lucci no more. London Fletcher is finally going to the Pro Bowl.

The Washington Redskins middle linebacker has been promoted to the NFC roster because the player ahead of him, Jonathan Vilma, will be going to the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints.

"At some point I did think, maybe it's never going to happen," Fletcher said Monday. "I've had some great seasons and never made it to the Pro Bowl."

Fletcher said he "did a little sprinting around the house" when the Saints kicked an overtime field goal to beat the Minnesota Vikings in Sunday's NFC championship game. He had turned the game off in the fourth quarter, figuring friends would call him with the result. When the phone didn't ring, he turned the television back on and realized the game was in overtime.

"That was the most gut-wrenching game I've ever watched," Fletcher said.

The 34-year-old Fletcher is the league's most prolific tackler over the past decade, with at least 100 tackles in 11 straight seasons. He has never missed a game in his 12-year career and ranks only behind Brett Favre in consecutive games played among non-specialists with 192. He's a solid team leader and widely respected as one of the best at his position.

In a rare outburst, Fletcher was upset when he wasn't selected to the Pro Bowl last season, calling himself "the Susan Lucci of the NFL," a reference to the soap opera star who was nominated 18 times for an Emmy before finally winning.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is going to his third Pro Bowl, while Dallas cornerback Mike Jenkins will go for the first time.

The Cowboys announced Monday that Romo and Jenkins had been added to the NFC roster as injury replacements. Dallas has seven players going to Sunday's game in Miami.

Romo replaces Minnesota's Brett Favre, who pulled out of the Pro Bowl after hurting his ankle and taking numerous hard hits in the NFC championship game loss at New Orleans on Sunday. Romo this season set Cowboys' single-season records by completing 347 of 550 passes for 4,483 yards while taking every snap. He had a career-low nine interceptions.

Jenkins will take the roster spot of Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield (foot). Jenkins, a second-year player, led Dallas with five interceptions and 23 pass breakups.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

Garrard replaces Indianapolis' Peyton Manning, who will miss the NFL's all-star game Sunday because of the Super Bowl.

Garrard, playing in the Pro Bowl for the first time in his eight-year career, will join running back Maurice Jones-Drew as the team's only representatives.

Garrard threw for 3,597 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, and led all quarterbacks with 323 yards rushing and three scores. He also was sacked 42 times, threw 10 interceptions and fumbled five times.

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has earned his sixth trip to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for the Saints' Drew Brees.

The Eagles said Monday that McNabb and strong safety Quintin Mikell were added to the NFC roster after New Orleans advanced to the Super Bowl.

Mikell replaces the Saints' Roman Harper, who was an injury replacement for Arizona's Adrian Wilson.

Mikell's first Pro Bowl nod gives the Eagles nine players at Sunday's game in Miami.

London Fletcher really, really deserves this and to say he's not a real Pro Bowler is an outright lie. Great to see him finally make one.

I do think the NFL needs to make players play in the Pro Bowl as long as they aren't seriously hurt or on IR, but this wouldn't be a problem in the first place if the NFL would do something to make players (and fans) feel like the game is not a joke.

Damn, the Cardinals had both safeties and a corner make the probowl and their secondary is one of the biggest weaknesses on the team. Says a lot about Bryant McFadden and their lack of depth at the position.

It's about damned time London Fletcher got in the Pro Bowl. He was a beast when they played the Cowboys in Dallas before Thanksgiving.

He's also one of the few guys to have a lengthy NFL career despite never playing scholarship college ball (Division III John Carroll).

Yeah, good for him. Glad to see a guy that wants to go, and realizes what an honor it is.

Even though I believe some guys that deserve to make it you know how I feel on the subject on this joke of a game. Does anyone even watch the pro bowl?

I used to watch it as a kid just to watch the Cowboys and Oilers players but I don't think I have actually sat and watched it since the early 90's. This year its on my birthday and we will be at our bowling night so it might be on. That sucks...my birthday used to have the occasional Super Bowl fall on it...now its the stinkin' Pro Bowl!

the pro bowl is worse than the nba all star game and mlb all star game combined.

The only thing more irrelevant is the nhl debacle, and that's because more people watch the pro bowl than the nhl playoffs.

If the overall sentiment of the Pro Bowl is lagging, why shouldn't someone like London Fletcher get his due? The guy has been one of the better unknown linebackers in the NFL. Hopefully those whom are questionable additions will come out and put up the best game of their seasons to validate their selection or replacement of a player whom might be playing in the Super Bowl or injured. Chances are, the people who are complaining won't even catch the game. I know I won't...
