Denver Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 18 through Sunday, Jan. 24, the NBA announced today.
Billups led the Nuggets to a 3-0 record last week by averaging 25.7 ppg, 7.7 apg and 5.3 rpg. The Nuggets guard was red-hot all week, shooting .524 (22-42) from the field, .591 (13-22) from three-point range and .909 (20-22) from the foul line. In Oakland on 1/20, he posted a career-high-tying 37 points, eight rebounds and eight assists vs. the Warriors; the following night in Denver he registered 20 points and six assists in just 30 minutes vs. the L.A. Clippers on 1/21; and then closed out the week with 20 points, nine assists and five boards vs. New Orleans at Pepsi Center on 1/23.

This marks the fifth Player of the Week honor for Billups during his 13-year NBA career – second time in the Western Conference. Prior to this past week, he had received the award three times with the Detroit Pistons (2/2/03, 11/23/03 and 3/21/05) and once as a Nugget (11/16/08).

Billups’ honor comes one week after teammate Carmelo Anthony was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on 1/19/10, giving Denver its second-ever back-to-back P.O.W. honorees. Alex English and Fat Lever were recognized in consecutive weeks for the Nuggets during the 1986-87 season (1/25/87 and 2/1/87).

Simple: Billups would not be putting up those numbers in Detroit. He would be as apathetic as he had been ever since he lost the MVP to Nash...

He said it himself, he was too comfortable here in Detroit.

I am happy for Bips. I wish him all the best.

In 2006, they didn't have a star to match Wade. In 2007, they didn't have a star to match Lebron. In 2008, they didn't have a star to match Pierce. They figured maybe Iverson could be that star, and if not his contract was expiring and they could start over. Not a terrible idea IMO, I just didn't like replacing Chauncey with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

The Pistons would still be an elite team if they hadn't drafted Darko with the No. 2 pick of the Class of 2003...

Any of... Wade, Bosh, Carmelo teamed with Chauncey, Hamilton, Prince and Ben Wallace would have been a formidable team...

Who knows if they would have traded for Rasheed had they drafted any of those players...

The Pistons weren't conteder material anymore and needed a change. Iverson could have been the offensive spark they needed and if he does strive in the system the Pistons could get much money off their books to spend on a big name FA.

What's more surprising than the Billups/Iverson trade is that the Pistons couldn't wait a season to sign better players. They just threw away all the money they had left for players like Gordon and Charlie-V.

    Really original on your part.
