I did the same as kid and got blisters from rubbing them on my bare skin. I rarely see them at all since I've moved down here. When I lived in Ohio we would see them by the hundreds if not thousands.
They came up as I was talking to my daughter and she said "whats that?"
I remember as a kid they would be a crap load in my grandma's backyard, .We would catch as many as we could and throw them in a jar, or smear them on our shirts for the glow. i know it's gross but as a kid I didn't care. I never see them anymore at my grandmas house or anywhere.

Yep, when I was a kid the fireflies and Breckenridge Park were a major part of our San Antonio vacations. Lived here 6 years now and I don't think I've seen one![]()
Now that you mention it I use to see fireflies all the time in my backyard. Now there's nothing. I think I murdered to many when I was a kid.
yup my 8 year old is, that's how the topic came up
As long as there's a thousand hugs from 10,000 lightning bugs.
dirk stfu, that's your favorite song u show it to all your friends on AIM
Was talking about this just the other day with someone-- there were tons here when I was a kid.
I have read that all the development has lessened their numbers. Also, I read a claim that they use the light to attract each other, and so you don't see them in developed areas with outside lighting.
Fire flies are cool. We have them a lot in Macedonia. Although not so much as before. It seems everywhere it is decreasing.

We get fireflies occasionally here in Austin, and I always remember seeing them at my grandmothers in Halletsville, Tx, but I can't remember the last time I saw them in San Antonio.
I dont even see may bees or wasps anymore either. They used to be EVERYWHERE!!!!
I actually kind of like that song too...am i not cool now?
you know, I was just thinking of this the other day
there used to be tons of dragonflies and lightning bugs/fireflies in my backyard, but i havent seen one in a LONG time...
Well first the fireflies and next the bees. No more bees = no more us.
That's only because you are too busy inside your apartment jacking off to gay porn. Go outside every once in a while.

Now I love fireflies, and imma let yall finish this thread, but deep-ocean creatures have the best bioluminescence of all time! OF ALL TIME!
Yeah we noticed that also when we saw some in our front yard months ago.
I bet the guy that invented glow in the dark condoms used to smear them all over his pener when he was a kid.
nothing more fun than smearing glow in the dark fecal matter all over your clothes.
