    Knicks discuss deal for McGrady
    By Adrian Wojnarowski

The Houston Rockets are in the discussion stages of a complicated, three-team trade that would send Tracy McGrady to the New York Knicks, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The centerpieces of the trade would include the Washington Wizards shipping forward Caron Butler and center Brendan Haywood to the Rockets. The Knicks would send Al Harrington to the Wizards. For the Wizards’ part, they would still need another player, as well as a draft pick and cash to make this a workable scenario, sources said.

Other players and contracts would still need to be agreed upon for a deal to come together, but there is a framework to the discussions.

The Rockets have been peddling McGrady’s expiring contract of $23 million since exiling him in late December.

Houston is scary with this trade..not contender scary, but probably the 3rd best team in the West IMO..

It also doesn't hurt them at all from a long-term perspective, so they really have nothing to lose with this trade..they aren't going to get better talent than Butler-Haywood..

Nice deal for the Rockets. They could then ship Battier to a contender for a pick, or something along those lines, and keep rebuilding with youth.

Brooks/Lowry/Ariza/Butler/Haywood/Landry/Scola/Budinger/Yao?? etc is a nice collection of players.

Meh, dont think Butler + Haywood makes us a contender. Does set us up nicely for the new CBA while still being compe ive, but it doesnt really excite me all that much.

Oh and T-Mac fits perfectly with the Knicks run and gun offense. Plus T-Mac will go off for plenty of fantasy points if he gets traded there.

If this trade goes down, we should start a bet to see how long before T-mac has a nervous breakdown due to the NY media

Here is the speculated proposed deal.

    Houston gets:
    Caron Butler (2 Years)
    Brendan Haywood (1 year)
    Mike Miller (1 year)
    Cuttino Mobley (1 year)

    Washington gets:
    Al Harrington (1 year)
    Trevor Ariza (4 years)
    Brian Cook (1 year)
A Knicks second round draft pick.

    Knicks get:
    Tracy McGrady (1 year)

Pretty decent deal all over really.

Report: Three-Team Tracy McGrady Deal Being Discussed
    SportingNews

Tracy McGrady’s been rumored in enough deals these last few weeks to fill up a Fleetwood Mac album. Today, we have another rumor, this time involving a three-team mega-swap that could only involve the creative mind of Daryl Morey. Adrian Wojnarowski is on the case once again:

The Houston Rockets are in the discussion stages of a complicated, three-team trade that would send Tracy McGrady to the New York Knicks, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The centerpieces of the trade would include the Washington Wizards shipping forward Caron Butler and center Brendan Haywood to the Rockets. The Knicks would send Al Harrington to the Wizards. For the Wizards’ part, they would still need another player, as well as a draft pick and cash to make this a workable scenario, sources said.

As Larry Coon noted on Twitter, the Knicks would need to add more players to make this one work, most likely Cuttino Mobley alone or Jared Jeffries plus another player. This trade would give them the cap space they covet so much, but it might also make them look like less of a real basketball team. Coon also thinks the Knicks are unlikely to deal for pure cap space—they’d need a tangible asset, too.

The Rockets would come out extremely well, getting a strong player in Butler and a quality center with an expiring contract this summer to avoid any frustration at having to sit behind Yao next year. Woj rightly notes, though, that this deal is pretty bad for the Wizards, who would be starting their rebuilding process with this swap. That means they’d need a draft pick, and with New York’s 2010 pick in the hands of the Jazz, it’d have to come from Houston. But would Morey want to give it up? It seems odd that someone who prizes cheap, efficient talent would want to trade away a first-rounder.

As interesting as this trade would be, it seems like there may be too many roadblocks to get it done.

I can not verify it as THE DEAL, just what I read was allegedly the deal.

As for the Knicks they want Tmac to get a free look and hopefully get them to the playoffs....

The Knicks get exactly what they need. T-Macs expiring. They do not get bent over. Plus T-Mac will bring fans into Madison Square Garden. It is a good trade for them.

    Adrian Wojnarowski:

Tracy McGrady has been working out with trainer Tim Grover in Chicago at his Attack Athletics Gymnasium since late December, waiting for the Houston Rockets to find a trade for him. Yet, the Rockets have been unwilling to let teams interested in trading for McGrady stop by the gymnasium and monitor his progress, one league executive said. ”They won’t allow a ‘casual sitting,’ ” the executive said.

McGrady is the center of discussions among the Rockets, Washington Wizards and New York Knicks in a three-team trade scenario. As part of a larger package, the moving pieces would send New York’s Al Harrington to Washington and Washington’s Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood to Houston.

If McGrady ends up getting his contract bought out, one source close to him said, the Knicks are No. 1 on his list to sign with for the rest of the season.
