I'm just starting to get into this sound. Any suggestions for ambient music? I like the laid back stuff to chill to.

You should upgrade to full-on beats brah
Anything associated with Laswell is a good start. The Divination albums or Sacred System albums would be my recommendation. I'm also a fan of Mick Harris' post Napalm Death ambient stuff. Some of Eno's stuff is good too - Here Come the Warm Jets and Another Green World come to mind.
I agree about Eno, but "Here Come The Warm Jets" is a glam album and "Another Green World" is more of a singer/songwriter album with ambient elements, IMO.
I'd recommend Eno's first four "Ambient" albums, as well as "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks," or some of the early Fripp and Eno stuff ("(No Pussyfooting)," or "Evening Star").
There are also tons of great Krautrock/ambient bands you might dig:
Harmonia
La Düsseldorf
Cluster
Tangerine Dream
early Kraftwerk
If you don't feel like listening to ancient history, there's a new guy named Tim Hecker makes interesting ambient stuff with modern synths.

Yep, you're right. I just looked through my library in iTunes and those were the first two Eno albums there. haha
The Orb
/end thread
If you're into having dance beats in your ambient music, sure.
Sure some of the orb's more popular songs have a dancy vibe, but quite a bit of it doesnt.
My bad -- I didn't know that
I'm not looking for something too upbeat. More like a Pink Floydish-dark feel to it.
Ambient Music is underrated. I was a big fan of Musical star-streams in the late 80s

If you get a chance check out there weekly radio show.

I was a big fan of this type of music back in 1978 when I heard Joe Anthony play Tangerine Dream on the radio. It feels like something intelligent people listen to.
Try and find LPs that have greatest hits like 1AD two AD and others.
they have many different groups so you get a variety.

Check out Death Cube K then.
Not dark, but more indian influenced. Talvin Singh. Sometimes you dont even notice when one song ends and another begins. I like to sit, or lay down with my eyes closed and just listen. Fully concious of the music (i.e. not sleeping), but I keep my eyes closed to see where it takes me.
I have both Tabla Beat Science albums. Dude is amazing.
