Mock, Jeffery to try out with Texans
Former Longhorn QB Chance Mock and WR Tony Jeffery have been invited to the Houston Texans rookie mini-camp for a tryout with the team.
Both players are from the Houston area with Mock
attending The Woodlands High School and Jeffery attending Klein Forest.
Mock completed 115-of-213 passes for 1,613 yards and 17 TDs (No. 9 on the UT all-time list) with only two interceptions in 28 career games.
He also had a streak of 106 consecutive passes without an interception to open his career, which is the longest stretch in UT history to
open a career and the third-longest overall.
Jeffery was Texas' top receiver in 2004, catching 33 passes for 437 yards and three TDs. Over his career, he played in all 50 of UT's games
over four seasons and recorded 57 catches for 714 yards and six TDs, while rushing 25 times for 127 yards and a TD. Jeffery also served as
the Longhorns' holder, recovered two blocked
punts for TDs and blocked four punts (T-No. 1 on the UT all-time blocked kicks list/No.1 punts) on special teams during his career.

Matthews officially signs with Lions
DETROIT, Mich. - University of Texas FB Will Matthews (Austin, Texas/Westwood HS) agreed to terms as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit
Lions on Thursday. He will join former Longhorn WR Roy Williams, DE Cory Redding and DT Shaun Rogers on the Lions roster.
A four-year letterman at UT, Matthews played in 48 career games, starting four, and rushed 52 times for 212 yards and four TDs. He played in
all 12 games as UT's primary fullback in 2004 and rushed 38 times for 161 yards and one TD, and caught eight passes for 42 yards and a TD.
Williams was one of 19 players signed as free agents by Detroit following the draft.
he had a great TD to INT ratio
these guys deserve a chance
3 great guys, all from the state of TEXAS, Mock never ed and moaned when VY took his job, Jeffery was overlooked because he came in the same recruiting class as roy williams bj johnson and sloan thomas, Tony habitually made ass saving plays he's also a of a blocker who was key in the most lethal rushing attack in the big 12 , and matthews that boy can lay a licking 40 times a game on any LB or DLineman in the nfl
i already forgot what posotion some of those guys played
but that is pretty tight how theres a bunch of longhorns on detroit lions
hey mookie i might be spending the summer in michigan maybe i can visit them hah
this professor asked me to help him on his research project for the entire summer in michigan in return for a patrick-esque Stipend
but i can buy a ridiculous beat machine with my patrick-esque stipend along with loads of other i only dreamed of while watching Neil be Neil
Then CD$$$$ will be in full swing
its like all we'll need is time together
looks like the lions are always lookin for longhorn players to add to their roster, which is pretty tight. isnt there a fifth longhorn?
I love the fact the Will Matthews joined the Lions....after the draft, I wanted them to sign this guy big time, as Schlesinger is getting old. Longhorns on roster now: Roy WIlliams, Shaun Rodgers, Corey Redding, Will Matthews, and Rod Babers
Matthews will do well, Jeffries might but Mock...he is headed to Arena Football.
Jeffries might turn into a solid special teams contributor. Matthews could make a niche as a situational blocking back (since he has no recieving skills). Mock is just terrible.
All three of these guys are very marginal NFL prospects. Matthews I think has the best chance to make a roster. When a team is as dependent on their ground attack as UT was last season, the fullback is always a difference maker. I think he would have been better off signing with a team like Miami or Carolina (who have newfound commitments to the running game), but Detroit isn't a bad place to at least turn some heads.
I wasn't thinking that Schlesinger doesn't have much tread left on the tires, so msufan might have a good point.
I don't think Jeffery is NFL material, but I'd love for him to prove me wrong. He's what: 5'11", 170? Unless he finds a special teams niche like Don Beebe did ten years ago, I don't see him sticking anywhere.
Chance Mock, on the other hand, needs to go to Europe to see if he has NFL caliber skills.
Matthews is by far the best prospect. Wish all of them good luck.
babers is actually with the bucs
mock will probably play safety, tho he was injured pretty much all last year.
