Smith is a tool. Of all the Congresscritters who's district I lived in, he was the only one I was abjectly embarrassed about.

Lamar Smith explains himself better than most of them IMO. He's obviously of above average intelligence. For me, it's just that what he believes is so jackassed.

What embarrassed you about Lamar Smith, exstatic?

His xenophobia, for one. When you can't solve the problems you're paid to solve, the good ol' parade of scapegoats is usually a decent distraction.

He's just GOP talking points in a suit. There's no "there" there. If they could just crank out GOP congressmen who would never say anything of importance, and always vote the party line without question, he'd be the mold they'd use.

So, I assume that this means that all the teapartiers and republicans in Ciro's district will now be voting for Ciro, right?

I mean, wouldn't it stand to reason that on the most important issue to the tea partiers, if the Republican voted AGAINST them and the democrat voted WITH them, that they would support the correct voter, right?

I can just hear Cobra and SnC and others now.

    What Smith was saying then...
This is not about bailing out Wall Street. It's about protecting American jobs, the financial security of families, and the economy of our Nation.

Since half of all households own stocks either directly or indirectly through 401(k) accounts, IRAs, and pension plans, we had to find a solution to this crisis.

The money in the compromise plan will be used to purchase the mortgage-related assets at the center of the problem. When the financial markets stabilize, many of those assets will regain their value and will be sold by the Federal Government to recover a substantial portion of the cost for taxpayers.

This plan will stabilize the economy, strengthen home values, and prevent a devastating recession. It's an investment in the future of the American people.

I have contacted Lamar Smith with a problem I was having with a state regulatory agency. He personally went to the head of the agency in our area, and told him of our situation. The next day we were contacted by the agency and had our situation resolved within a week.

Thought that was pretty good service.

I don't agree with the bailouts, and that is a bigger issue. He might have thought it was necessary...as so many did, at least in the financial area of the bailout. I don't.

We disagree on that point...and probably others. He's helped me, I will support him for that. That doesn't mean I will support him on every issue.

I will vote for Perry too...even tho I'm vehemently against toll roads.

    ...and so it goes.

First Propaganda Dan, HR 3997 failed to pass, so HR 1424 was almost the same thing. He only voted for one passage of TARP. Even though many of us were against the 2008 TARP, at least the funds, by law, when repaid, are required to pay back down the debt. Congress cannot spend it on something else. The same is not true of any legislation rammed through by the demonrats.

Look at it this way. The 2008 TARP is a high risk loan. It isn't necessarily a bailout.

I would say the truth lies with the semantics you choose to apply.

SnC doesn't know the difference between TARP and the stimulus.
