lol when the jets started to make some noise...
This is past ridiculous. Why bother with contracts in the NFL. The guy had a great ing year. They want him to re-do contract after 1400 yard season, ing crazy.

New York Jets running back Thomas Jones will not restructure his contract and will be released this week, sources told ESPN on Saturday.
Jones, who will become a free agent March 5, was slated to receive a $3 million roster bonus March 9 and a $2.8 million base salary in 2010.
Jones, who has played the last three seasons for the Jets, rushed for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns on 331 carries last season. The Jets reached the AFC Championship Game.
Jones has 9,217 career rushing yards in 10 seasons with the Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears.

No. Players get lazy after earning that guaranteed money. I like the way the NFL System is now.
WTF. Jones has played in the league for 10 years and had one of his best seasons and they want to do his contract over.
If you look at Jones' season, he really wasn't that great. He had a few spurts of big time production, but at least half of his games were mediocre at best, along with his entire playoff run. Shonn Greene really started outplaying him big time by the end of the year.
I know it sounds ridiculous to say a guy had a "weak" 1400 yard season, but if anyone ever has, it's Thomas Jones.
I'm always surprised that most people have the backs of the owners over the players when it comes to contracts. Now I am hearing a 1400 yard season really isn't that good especially in a time where the RB share more time with other running backs than any other time. He should not be punished.
This x 1,000,000
MLB of all professional sports is the league that needs to get rid of guaranteed contracts. if baseball players contracts weren't guaranteed and they had to earn their money, then maybe we would actually see them RUN to first base, not jog.
The baseball union would never allow that to happen.
Hey Thomas Jones did quite well for my FFB team. Lets see where he goes.
jack isn't keeping up with events. The other leagues are moving TOWARDS the NFL model, and trying to limit guaranteed money. You saw a Hockey lockout a couple of years ago, and you'll see an NBA version of the same thing in 2011.
no
I love the NFL the way it is now.
because when players get guaranteed contracts, they pull NBA type moves and get lazy.
that. keep it the way it is now.
heck, they do that now even when contracts aren't guaranteed. no need to make them even more lazy.
sup Adalius Thomas
if Thomas Jones was really that good there would be teams lining up to give him cash.
plus, most teams give some kind of nice signing bonus up front to the players if Im not mistaken.
the salary structure is fine the way it is.

I'm in favor of guaranteed contracts because there would be more trades and it would really hurt teams who give out big stupid contracts. I like that NBA teams can't just release their mistakes, they have to trade them away or live with them
They do. The MLB has so many players that get paid up the ass and then don't take baseball seriously.
partial guarantee is okay.
Or up the performance bonuses substancially. Jones should have been rewarded for his 1400 yards. Instead they gave LT Pouter some of Jones money. Hope Jones kicks ass in Kansas City.
