Fans now have NBA MVP Vote
The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced that, for the first time ever, fans will have the opportunity to help determine the winner of the NBA Most Valuable Player award.
Through a dedicated Web page on NBA.com, fans can submit their votes for MVP, ranking their top five choices. The combined fan vote will count as one vote, with the remaining 124 votes coming from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The 2009-10 NBA Most Valuable Player of the Year Award will be announced following the conclusion of the 2009-10 NBA regular season.
“The NBA Most Valuable Player award presented by Kia Motors is our league’s most talked about and coveted individual accolade, and Kia Motors is providing an incredible opportunity for our fans to have a voice in determining the winner of the award for the first time,” said Executive Vice President of NBA Global Marketing Partnerships Mark Tatum. “Kia Motors is adding to the honor of winning by continuing its effort to donate new vehicles to charity on behalf of all four 2010 NBA Performance Awards recipients and ensuring that each award will have a lasting impact in its respective community.”
This is stupid. Just like when fans were made available to vote for the All-Star game it all becomes a popularity contest over performance.
lol so Lebron is now guaranteed a vote every year till he retires
Looks like the 7'6" piece of is gonna get an MVP vote.
Are you ing kidding me?
That's re ed
you David you have ruined the NBA for us
Luckily, it is just one vote for fans combined. So, we are like the media.
Yep, Ming, Tmac, and AI will all be candidates next year thats pretty much a no-brainer.
Ehh, fans just count as 1 vote out of 125 total. I would have been pissed if "fans" had more of an inpact, 1 vote though isnt going to be enough to sway things too much.
You forgot to add Yi Jianlian. I still remember the amount of votes he got for the ASG 2009. He finished third in total votes for Eastern Conference forwards, absolutely ridiculous.
Maybe we can get Bowen to win the vote, barely edging out Amare Stoudemire.
Actually I would like to see Roy Tarpley get a vote.
It would be the basketball equivalent of giving Pete Rose a vote for MLB MVP.
lol 1 vote out of 125. Some of you guys are drama queens.
Agreed, the fan vote will have very little effect on the final outcome.
LeBron will win it fan vote or not and rightfully so.
it is still bull .
You are right, it's just one vote. But IMO it's still bull .
It's a good thing that this only counts as 1 of 125 votes. Casual basketball fans are ing dumb. Actually, most of you passionate basketball fans are ing dumb.
Smart move considering how much its helped the all-star game.
basically ....... based on the criteria that's usually used - top 2 or 3 team, great stats - it's LeBron's to lose. Unbelievable numbers and the Cavs kept rolling even with a lot of injuries.
Durant should get a load of votes too. No one would have every thought that OKC would be pushing 50 wins. Scottie Brooks will definitely be the Coach of the Years, which is a cursed award. Look for him to be fired in three years.
Actually the 1 vote can matter if the voting goes down to the wire and a player who can use the 1 vote doesnt get it because of Yao Ming....
Chances are very very slim if that happened.
