By winning 3 in a row the Spurs have proven they are superior than the Nuggets. That's a fact now. So to me this game tonight is unnecessary.

Why the did the NBA change the 1st round from 5-game series to 7???

There's more chance of teams reaching next round fatigued and injured.

Less of a chance of an upset. I think it's a good thing. Flukes are more likely in 5-game series.

I'd like to see them eliminate the first round and take 4 teams from each conference, personally. But that's a pipe dream of a pipe dream.

They went to a 7 game series a couple of years ago. The fakers were struggling, and could have been surprised in the first round, so in order to accomodate them, they decided to go to a 7 game series.

It was not a Lakers conspiracy or anything as sinister or menacing as all that.

The NBA was paid major jack by TNT and ESPN and there were too many 3-0 sweeps in 1st rounds and for the networks to make money on just 3 games was impossible.

This extra game or two was the break even benchmark for the networks....that and the extended time of the 1st round, so every game can be on primetime, with few concurrent games.

Jim...take that rational, logical answer OUT of here...it HAS to be a conspiracy to help the Lakers...o

Actually I agree with ladiesman. They changed it in the middle of a year when the Lakers had had a number of injuries and were going to lose home court in the first round, so they changed it to give the Lakers a statistically better chance of winning the series without HCA. It's not really a conspiracy, because nobody tried to keep it secret.

The first roung between 1-8, and 2-7, can be finished in 5

But the 3-6 and 4-5 are very different

In the East the 6th Seeed is 3-2, The 4 and 5 are tied
In the West the 3-6 series is finished but the 4-5 series is 3-2

Obviously, $. Still, for every potential upset in a short series missed out on there are some pretty good series that are worth 7 games, such as DAL-HOU in the West and CHI-WAS in the East.
