I concur.
Until SA gets him to sign an extension, he's fair game. Desperate teams can do crazy things and offer crazy money and NY qualifies. I'm sure Mike D'Antoni would just love to have Manu as his no. 2 superstar next to LBJ. Teams who have cleared cap space and who miss out on James, Wade and Bosh may find manu a very tempting alternative.
knicks might offer him all the money in the world, but they arent winnin anyway
Won't happen. The knicks will still be terrible because they won't get Lebron and their frontcourt is too thin for them to be a contender with whatever max player they think they'll get.
hes going to a contender hes not going to the knicks at the end of his career, who wants to end out their career on a bad team, hes only going to teams like lakers celtics magic cavs all the top tier teams.
Its not just the Knicks though.. the sooner SA gets him to sign an extension the better.
If the Knicks get Bosh on a near-max to NYC, get a bunch of veteran role players as well (say Camby?, Jason Williams) to round off their roster; they can indeed lure Ginobili with a contract that exceeds what the Spurs would manage to offer. It would be sad to see Manu leave to a perennial loser like the Knicks; but the possibilities are very much there.
Manu has to be on the list of top five free agents since he's proved he's back. And while he can get a very good contract, at his age he will be offered a lot less than James Wade and Bosh. It would be a very good shot for a team to get a top player who can put butts in the seats because of his exciting play.
I'm praying we can keep him--but he'll have some tempting offers.
Good article. Manu will be an expensive resign but I think he deserves to retire a Spur, as did David and Sean (and Timmy some day). I only wish the Iceman could have done the same.
I have a gut feeling that he ends up in Houston to finish his career with his buddy Scola.
San Antonio would be in epic meltdown mode.![]()
If Manu were to leave, the Knicks might be the best possible scenario. Eastern Conference team, and no immediate threat to the Spurs. They will have HUGE cap room, so maybe swing a sign-and-trade that sends Richard Jefferson's salary too? RJ would fit in better in the Knicks system, so it would be a win/win for everyone. Not as good as keeping Manu, but if he has to go...
This guy was pretty generous with the compliments..
manu and scola would be niceee, the pick and roll would be beast they have alotttt of chemistry

I remember he wrote this piece after Manu had that incredible game saving play against the Thunder.
What people really don't grasp is that if Manu leaves in the FA, then the Spurs most probably will be in full rebuilding mode. They will be over the cap, with only the MLE/LLE to spend and paper thin at too many positions
There is NO WAY the Spurs can field a contender team w/o Manu, and they will not find a Manu Ginobili for the MLE. Even if they hypothetically do, they won't be able to address any of their needs, and the team will remain as weak as it is now in the absolutely miraculously best case scenario (quite improbably actually). The future of Duncan is tightly related to Manu.
CROFL Raising kids in NYC![]()
Yes, the Knicks should use their cap space on a talented, but much older Ginobili instead of other younger, just as talented players.
More realistic than Lebron ...
Bosh, Manu and resign David Lee
Let Manu run the offense alongside Wilson Chandler develop Toney Douglass as teh back up PG ...
You run as starters Lee, Bosh Chandler Manu and Gallinari ...
Not a le team (or close)yet, but winning one against LBJ would be tough anyway ...
When Curry's contract is ready to expire you trade his contract for the best available big man ...
or you could sign and trade Lee this year for something good and still sign a couple of good players ...I agree Manu and D'antoni would be a great fit.
Some of Manu's best games have come against D'antoni
manu is a spur....knicks can kiss pop's ass
the knicks would be one team that could offer him crazy money when all max players turn him down
spurs would be stupid to match max money that knicks might throw at him
ginobili = italian
dantoni= italian
gallinari= italian
so it all works out
The Knicks stink and James is not going to start over with lesser players for less guaranteed money in NY. Not gonna happen, and Gino is not going there is there if no chance to win.
