Last year I got laughed at when I said that Anthony Parker was the bargain of the offseason. He started 81 games (sat out the final) for the Cavs, the team with the best record in the NBA - for $2.6 Million.

This year, I think Chris Duhon will be the bargain of the offseason. He's not All Star material, but he's a solid "pass first" point guard who distributes the ball well, and has always kept a very good AST/TO ratio. He's also a pretty solid defender.

He got saddled with a lot of the blame for the Knicks' lack of success, but what would you expect from a half-court PG on a Mike D'Antoni team? And you know D'Antoni doesn't appreciate anybody for their defense. I think he will go for around $2.5M this season.

The biggest knock on him is that he doesn't score a lot. Although before this last season with the Knicks, he put up adequate numbers for a pass-first guard. His stroke isn't that bad, and he's shot decent percentages from the 3P line. I think he could put up a few more if he had the green light, and the cover of some decent teammates.

I think he's a guy who has never been in the right situation as far as personnel, or a coach who appreciates defense and who would use him for what he does best. The only concern is that "they say" he parties too much. I don't know how much of that is true and how much is rumor. Some of the stories are from his college days, so I don't know if he's still hitting it too hard. I've never heard any complaints about him in the locker room, or as a teammate. On court I think he fits the Spurs pretty well. Off court may or may not be a different story.

Anthony Parker is old, slow as dirt, and shoots the three pointer like a SWAT sniper. How has he never been a Spur?

I'd rather get a pure shooter, but if can get a PG that shoots the three well, dishes the rock, and defends for fractional MLE, I guess you do it. I hate his FG%, though.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing Duhon for LE. He's not a bad back up point guard. He wouldn't be my first choice though.

If I recall correctly, Duhon has a reputation of drinking too much.

If the Spurs are going after someone who likes to get a little tipsy, they should target Dorell Wright.

If you've looked closely at our cap situation, you know we're going to have to find some bargains.

    I'm just sayin'...

Unless there are injury problems, he will be getting backup minutes to Jameer Nelson. Hard to say how a pass-first, halfcourt PG fits in on that team, but they still didn't waste any time. At that price, he was a good value. He would have been a better value if he would have gone for $2.5M - $3M, like I thought he might. But Orlando obviously thought more of him than that.

Nearly 4mil a year to back up a relatively young PG - Nelson - who should be able to play 36mpg (although he's averaged about 30mpg for his career)... seems strange to me. But then Orlando has also recently paid the MLE to Gortat and 4.5mil/yr to Bass to sit on the bench, so they obviously enjoy overpaying for their pine-riders!

Good signing for the Magic. Nelson is one of those guys who gets hurt every year so it makes sense for the Magic to spend a little more on their backup PG.
