Did anyone catch the line Barkley said on Inside the NBA about Bonner?

They were showing some Dirk highlights and Bonner was in the other end of most of them, so Chuck says, "Matt is a Limo Guy", when they asked him what that meant, his reply:

One of those guys that Mark Cuban not only sends a car, but a limo, to make sure he gets to the game...

    Lol

That's the truth right there...any player in the NBA...when they see that guy guarding them...IMMEDIATELY start to salivate...it don't get any easier than being guarded by Matt Bonner...

Yeah, what Chuck said is the truth that some poster on this forum fails to admit. Some were saying..."Oh, M. Bonner kind of got under Dirks skin today..." let me tell u, Dirk seems like the type of kid on the playground who will get picked on by the bully; then when it comes to his turn where he sees a kid who is smaller than him; he will in return pick on that smaller kid... Remember D. West a few years ago slapping at D. Nowitzki's face, and he did nothing to defend himself and just stood there... and this isn't the first time Dirk try to intimidate or start something with M. Bonner, he's done that in last year's playoff too... SO FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE CLAIMING THAT M. BONNER GOT UNDER DIRK'S SKIN... just please STFU.

Vander and Tpark think Barkley doesn't know what he's talking. But keep the faith Bonner lovers! I'm sure the 5 of ya'll are real close buddies.

This. Bonner's defense has actually improved, and he's in good position more often than not, even if he doesn't jump or block a lot of shots.

The problem is, NBA players are still confident they can score all over him. And confidence cannot be underrated in basketball. Bonner could be in the right spot at the right time, but if Dirk still believes his shot is going in the basket, it's got a pretty good chance unless Bonner actually impedes its path.

Contrast that to when the Spurs actually played defense, and Bruce Bowen was constantly in the head of his opponent from the opening tip. Teams used to fear coming into San Antonio to play, and I don't think that is the case anymore. We do nothing defensively to disrupt their comfort level.

Bonner may have upgraded his defensive effort from "failed" to now "below average". Whatever he's done to ramp up on that end of the court, STILL isn't good enough to contend with an average NBA player, much less an NBA superstar like Dirk. Bonner is in WAY over his head, as well as any other defender that has tried to stop the Big German.

The mere fact that Barkley is making a laughing stock out of Bonner on national TV, one can only wonder what the rest of the NBA players and GMs are saying about him. I only wish the FO had gone after SJax.

The confidence everyone has when facing Bonner comes because they know he's got a huge BULLSEYE on his back with the refs and any aggressive actions he does will be probably called a foul (up to and including meekly putting his arms up while being slam dunked on)

Bonner had fewer blocks than George Hill this season, which pretty much sums up the problems with the interior defense. So even when Bonner plays smart defense, position-wise, there is still never an intimidation factor for smaller players thinking about driving the lane and never a concern with big guys like Dirk, Gasol, or Dwight Howard... In a nuts , seeing Bonner on the defensive end gives opposing players confidence.

I know Bonner is everyone's favorite whipping boy here. But all the advanced stats say he should be on the court. I'm not sure whether he's just a good fit or what. But I'm inclined to believe that he's a better basketball player than most in here give him credit for.

That said ... I'd chip in for that limo too.

Man, at first I though Chuck meant, "Bonner is so bad he should be a limo driver not a player", but this is just as sad, if not more. What sucks is that Bonner has to play near perfect defense to have any kind of impact, I don't care what the +/- suggest, because a team "scoring more or less" when a certain player is in doesn't guarantee or assure anything. Bonner is not athletic and agile, he's not long and tall, he's not a shot blocker, he's not stronger than Dirk, and he's not really that savvy - all he's got going is some serviceable defensive footwork and constant hustle. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough last season, and it's not enough now.

Matt Bonner plays the best defense of any big men on this team outside of Duncan. Those of you kidding yourself otherwise need to watch the games. McDyess was fouling like crazy last night. Ian is a foul machine, and Blair got owned by Haywood.

Matt is no DPOY candidate, but the Spurs bigmen all are pretty poor matchups in this series on Dirk. McDyess is the one you should really direct anger at. He's the one brought in to fill a role he can't fill.

    But . . . but . . . but . . .

Bonner spreads the floor! He's a knockdown 3-point shooter! He's a good defender!

He is the Prince of Plus/Minus!

    He's the perfect Horry replacement!

I appreciate that Bonner hustles and has improved his game...but ultimately he just isn't that good of a player, especially since he isn't a clutch shooter. To me he is just an improved version of Brian Scalabrine. And look at how much Scalabrine plays...

    That's it.

There's absolutely no way Bonner, or any other Spur for that matter, can bother Dirk on the defensive end. Bonner only compounds his negative productivity by chucking up bricks from the 3-point line. It's been said before, but if Bonner cannot do either of these things, he's useless on the court.

This is a rerun of the same movie we've all seen before. The big redhead hustles and plays hard, but's he's not good enough to warrant him being a key rotation player for a playoff team.
