Who said anything about stopping Dirk? Bowen did a fine job on him and at least did not look like a re ed comedy act out there.
His point is that Bowen is the better guard at his current age then Bonner is his "prime".
An out of shape Bowen in a suit and bow tie would do a better job on Dirk than Bonner. Jesus what an embarrassment.

Nobody on the Spurs can guard Dirk. Hill had some success though limited earlier this year but he is injured and not up to it. For God sakes please don't think TD can either. Bad matchup since Dirk will take him away form the paint and let the Mavs bigs feast down low. Anyway TD isn't quick enough for this assignment. Only if Dirk continually wants to play down low would TD have a chance against him. But Dirk isn't the problem IMO. He will get his points so its up to the Spurs to concentrate on the other players, especially Kidd. The Spurs cheated/double teamed wings leaving Kidd wide open from beyond the arc. He had many open set shots for 3s which he is very good at that type of shot. Disrupt his game and the Spurs chances of winning go up. The player guarding Kidd needs to stay with him at all times.
Butler is another one to concentrate on. He had a very good game but struggled with the double teams. Throw some doubles at him aand see what happens.
We can all we want about Bonner but the Spurs TOs in the first half kept the Mavs in the game. 11 TOs for 17 pts! Cut that in half and that would increase your possessions and that means more points. They could have been up by 8 -10 ending the first half if they had taken care of the ball. Sloppy and careless play hurt the Spurs way more than Bonner guarding Dirk.
If the Spurs clean that up and Dirk has the same game I believe the Spurs win by 8 or more.

I don't think anyone is saying that Spurs need to concentrate on Dirk. Just that letting Bonner take Dirk most of the game is ridiculous, pathetic and laughable. At least throw more Bogans, RJ, Dice in there along with a few double teams, you know, mix it up. Pop should know better.

If RJ is going to give us nothing on offense anyway, then throw him at Dirk. He can't be any worse than Bonner or Bogans.

Please no more Bonner on Dirk. Like someone else said, Dirk's confidence grows when he sees Bonner guarding him. It doesn't matter if Bonner plays decent position defense. Dirk feels he can make anything over Bonner.
We need Mcdyess on Dirk. He has the length to contend Dirk's outside shot a bit. He has the strength to hold his ground in the post. Mcdyess can't fall for Dirk's pump fakes and make silly fouls. Make Dirk drive so our rotating defense has a chance to make a play.
