going into the 4th we were down 5 and ran a line up of:

    Manu
    Jefferson
    Bogans
    Blair
    Mason

that's 1 scorer and 2 people that can play defense. Caron Butler es 5 points to start the 4th....game over.

They ran a smallball lineup at the end of the third, and that combined with Pop's brilliant strategy of intentional fouling, turned a five point defecit into a 12 point defecit. I'm unclear as to where you've been if you think nobody has questioned it.

    Eh, don't remind me.

It absolutely encapsulates what is wrong with our coaching.

Play our best players the most, that's all I ask.

Pop made a bad decision to try small ball in game 1. I assume he was trying to create a spark by going to it. Trying to find that 4th scoring option. Going into game 2, Pop still needs to find that guy.

The smallball lineup that he ran in the 4th quarter had zero scoring options with a 6'5" center.

Well Dejuan shrunk 2 inches. Your right, which I'm guessing is the reason Pop went away from small ball.

He was over coaching and trying to rest McD, Duncan and Parker a little bit longer so they would finish out the rest of the game.

If he's the same height he was when he came out of college, then he's still 6'5". I'd say that the 12 point lead the Mavs had was probably a bigger factor in abandoning small ball. Let's hope and pray he learned his lesson from it.

i don't care if it's small ball as long as you have people that can SCORE and DEFEND. this line up was neither.

I think they officially list him at 6'7". But on the national telecasts I've heard more than one announcer speak of his 6'7" height as being "generous."

Mason and Bogans have 0 business being on the court. I'm trying to rationalize why they got the playing time they received, and all I can say is that maybe Jefferson's 2 quick fouls, and Hill being absent in the 2nd gave Mason 9 minutes and Bogans 16 minutes too many.

i remember Bogans playing decent the first time Dallas played SA. He had like 13points on 5-8 shooting. And Jefferson had 29points. That was one crazy game

I think the reason we lost game 1 was because Tony Parker didn't assert himself at the rim. I don't think anyone can stop him going to the rack and I'm not sure why he didn't attack.

2/4 in the paint for Tony. you're right, he needs to attack more.

He needs to pass on a fast break. There was a fast break where Kidd hit the ball out of bounds. He had to throw the ball high and let Jefferson get up there. Instead he wait till the last second and threw it right at Kidd's hands. Jefferson just nodded his head as if saying "this guy doesn't pass the ball".

I think the Mavs lineup was during that period

    Haywood
    Marion
    Butler
    Terry
    Barea

I think that's right. It's a lot bigger, a lot more athletic and has guys that can score. The Mavs should rightfully be praying that Pop tries that lineup again in this series.

True, although I actually thought the game took a turn even earlier just after the Spurs went up 59-58.

Then, Dice fouled (his 3rd). Pop took Dice out and replaced him with Bonner. Mavs went up by 7. Bonner was replaced by Mason after Ginobili had been replaced by Bogans. The Spurs never could quite get over the hump. Role players gave the Spurs nothing...small lineup or not.

Lets see if Pop can resist playing Mason for a night and see the results. Temple is worth the gamble for a 5 minutes at least to see if another Hill is on the bench.
