Neat.
My T-Mobile contract should be expiring about the same time this comes out.
Stoked.

So maybe it was the next iPhone. Gizmodo somehow managed to get their paws on a prototype of what’s probably sure to be the next iPhone. Not only that, but they’ve snapped a bunch of pics, shot a few videos and even tore that sucker apart. Sadly the thing won’t boot up so there is a lot of info that will remain a secret until Stevesy hits the stage at WWDC this June, but for now we know the following:
- It measures in at a pe e 4.5″ x 2.31″ x 0.37″ and weighs 140g
- It feels more sturdy and luxurious than the 3GS, yet feels good in the hand and in pockets despite its heft
- The back is made of either glass or a “shiny plastic” (remember that ceramic material patent Apple holds? Could this be it?)
- The chasis is milled aluminum
- No way of verifying the displays resolution since it’s not possible to get past “Connect to iTunes”, but it’s definitely at a much higher resolution than previous devices
- The camera has been improved and has a flash
- Thereis indeed front-facing camera
- Uses a micro-SIM just like the iPad
- The 5.25 WHr at 3.7V battery has a larger capacity than does the one found in the 3GS
Neat.

My Fido contract expires in October 2010, but I will be eligilible for an exttension this summer
if they keep that style for the actual retail version, that will be my next phone.

This phone still looks far superior IMO:

Apple hasn't truly innovated since the first iPhone. The new iPhone seems like an incrimental improvement to the 3GS. Other than a higher resolution screen (which is unremarkable now for a smart phone), I see little here to be truly excited about.
The Evo will likely have a better or = camera, a bigger display with at least equivalent resolution, 720p video recording out of the box, a kickstand, and 4G service which allows it to double as a wifi hotspot for up to 8 devices. The Evo is the real deal. I'm doubtful the locked down Apple phone will be able to compete from an objective standpoint. Will it outsell the Evo? Certainly. Sales figures != quality, however.
Good luck getting Android updates with Sprint. Isn't the Evo just a dressed up HD2?
The HD2 is running Windows Mobile, and even then is considered an excellent phone by many reviews. The Evo 4G has a better camera, a front facing camera for videoconferencing, a better battery, and of course, Android.
Android will alleviate many of the Windows Mobile issues. Also, Sprint has nothing to do with the software updates, those are going to be through HTC and Google, so I'm not sure what you're referencing here.
The HTC Hero on Sprint is still running Android 1.5. Google isn't pushing them out to Sprint phones, it's the most common gripe about the phone/platform on that network. Verizon pushed out the 2.0 updates to the Droid, not Motorola or Google either. The only phone Google pushes out updates for to my knowledge is the Nexus One.
Oh goodie. It has a kickstand. Where do I sign?![]()
Any updates or anything on this? My father has been dying to buy one but I've been telling him to hold off cause this new one is coming.
Any idea when I can buy it for him?
Apple normally announces new phones in June, IIRC. Patience grasshopper.
I don't understand why ppl "die" to get new phones. Wait in line, etc, etc. It's nonsense IMO. Just wait a few months and get it like a normal human being.
This
I'm not gonna sleep in front of a store for a phone
Exactly. I'm gonna stay awake!
It would be much, much less of a big deal to me right now if my current phone (LG Neon) wasn't a huuuuuuuge piece of trash. I moved to DC and went off the family plan, and I didn't feel like putting a brand new contract on a 2 year old iPhone, so I decided to wait for the Evo.
Even if I was still using the iPhone though, I'd be pretty pumped about this new phone. Just not totally geeked like I am right now to own a phone that actually works and doesn't shut itself off 4 to 8 times per day for no reason.
that phone up there is cool but that kickstand is the dumbest in idea i've ever seen!
That's interesting, because a lot of the tech blogs have been lamenting the fact that the iPhone lacks a kickstand. I'm pretty happy the Evo has one, even if it's not a necessary feature, it's nice to have.
Of course, I'm sure that you know better than they do. I guess having an option of using a feature on the phone is stupider than not having the option (which you aren't forced to use) in the first place.![]()

i just think it's ridiculous. if you like it and use it, more power to you man. i like the phone however, looks nice.
In the meantime the iPhone 3GS is now $97 at WalMart.
http://www.birdabble.com/1147/update...t-price-to-97/
That's a lot more well-phrased than, "the dumbest ing idea i've ever seen".
I doubt I'll use the kickstand a LOT, but at times it will be nice. Say I'm working and want to check out a new music video. I can prop the phone up and watch it while I work. Or use it on a TV tray if I'm flying or taking an Amtrak somewhere to watch a movie. Not a horrible feature to have, IMO.
yeah i guess i can see your reasoning here... i don't travel much but it'd definitely be used if i did travel and owned that phone.
hey so you're in dc now? my brother lives out there and is always trying to get me to move there but i hear it's freakin' expensive. i think his wife and him pay $3k+ a month for a 600-700 sq ft condo. i want out of SA but damn those prices would send me to the crazy house.
i'm always all over the place with my thoughts so anyhow cool phone.
Yeah, living in DC. It all depends on where you live. I actually reside in Silver Spring right now... which is about 15 minutes north of the downtown DC area. Rent isn't bad. The townhouse I'm living in is about 1400 sq ft and it runs in the $2000 a month with all utilities included. It just varies widely based on where you want to live. Downtown DC is obviously ridiculously expensive, but the transit system is good so that's hardly a must. If you can live out north of Silver Spring, you can find a 1 BR apartment for $800ish a month with no problems.
