We're doing a lot of things well, but I'm still not in in love with every decision Pop is making. There are stretches where both Tim and Manu aren't on the floor and others where Tim and Dice aren't on the floor. IMO, that doesn't give us the best chance to win. Also, we're playing some guys too many minutes. We need to have a nine-man rotation, even if a couple of the guys are just getting spot minutes.

Here I think would be a functional rotation...

    1st Qtr:
12:00-6:00: Starters (Dice, Tim, RJ, Manu, Hill)

6:00 to 2:00: TP in for Manu, Bonner in for Dice (Tim, Bonner, RJ, Hill, TP)

2:00 to 0:00: Manu in for RJ, Bogans in for Hill (Tim, Bonner, Manu, Bogans, TP)

2nd Qtr: 12:00-10:00: Blair in for Tim, Dice in for Bonner (Dice, Blair, Manu, Bogans, TP)

10:00-9:00: RJ in for Bogans (Dice, Blair, RJ, Manu, TP)

9:00-7:00: Hill in for TP (Dice, Blair, RJ, Manu, Hill)

7:00-5:00: Tim in for Blair, Bonner in for Dice, Tony in for Manu (Tim, Bonner, RJ, Hill, TP)

    5:00-4:00:
Manu in for RJ (Tim, Bonner, Manu, Hill, TP)

4:00-0:00: Dice in for Bonner (Tim, Dice, Manu, Hill, TP)

    Repeat for 2nd half...

    With this you get

    C McDyess 30 mins
    F Duncan 38 mins
    F Jefferson 30 mins
    G Ginobili 36 mins
    G Hill 38 mins

    F Bonner 18 mins
    F Blair 10 mins
    G Parker 32 mins
    G Bogans 8 mins

Nice, balanced, IMHO would be good if Manu keep some minutes for 4q and TP leads the 3q

I dont want to see much of bonner on the court. 18 minutes for him and 10 for blair? I would rather blair get all of bonners minutes.

Sounds nice in theory and all, but you've got to gauge the game situation and adjust your rotations accordingly. For example, is Bonner hitting his 3's? If not, no way in it makes sense to play him 18 minutes. If so, it might make sense to give him more than 18.

I would be ok with Bonner as long as he is hitting his shots, but he has been streaky at best. He has come through with a few threes here and there.

Yeah bonner is okay when he is hitting 3's but his defense is pathetic. Whoever bonner is guarding scores as if bonner isn't there. If he cant step up and play some defense pop shouldn't play him.

Well it's better than Mason at least.

Still, I think you could play Jefferson more than 30.

Temple >>>>>> mason or bogans and I agree RJ should play 35 38 mins if playing well...

I think Coach Pop's got this. I would love to see more Blair though if Bonner continues to struggle.

The only complaint I have with Temple is when he's handling the ball, so I have NO problem putting him in for a few minutes just to play defense, though we're back to the Mahinmi argument that he's not going to get any benefit of the doubt from the refs. I think he's longer and quicker than either Mason or Bogans, is he not? Might actually be worth trying Bogans just to push people around a bit, especially if they seem like they're starting to light it up from outside.

Probably all this discussion is purely academic; I'm pretty confident that Pop would rather keep the starters in an extra few minutes and close this series out for the extra rest waiting for Phoenix or Portland.

I actually like how the rotation has been used for the most part. Bogans (or Mason) has to play roughly five-six first half minutes so that the Spurs don't completely wear out Jefferson, Ginobili, Hill and Parker on the perimeter. If it get's to a game six, throw that out the window and just play the four of them.

Up front, I don't like Pop sticking with McDyess too long with Duncan, because I don't like having both out for an extended stretch. Pop's got to be more diligent with getting McDyess out seven minutes in and getting Parker in five minutes in. If there's a stoppage or a timeout a few seconds before either point, make the subs ution then rather than after, where you risk (like in game 4) Parker sitting there waiting to check in with under four minutes left in the quarter. That right there alters the entire back court rotation. Get Parker in five minutes in, get Hill two minutes, then get him back in for Ginobili.

were up 3-1 when most of spurstalk didn't even give us a chance at this thing. I think the rotation is fine.

you need to change 2 things :

    1) less minutes for bonner, more for dice and blair
    2) less minutes for bogans, more for RJ

    that's all
