The same thought occurred to me. They survived Bennett Salvatore and David Jones in one fell swoop. It's not a biggie, but it is a minor bonus.
Spurs win in a Salvatore-ref'd game. BONUS!!! It is all good. The Spurs' level of play did not allow Bennett to get into a rhythm.
It's like playing Monopoly with your playing partner loaded up with Hotels on Park Place and Broadway...and you get over.![]()

It's huge!
I cannot think of the last time we won a playoff game reffed by Salvatore.
David Jones is decent.
Salvatore and Stafford are absolute clowns.
No kidding, Spurs are due for a good crew like a Joey Crawford led bunch.
We were in total control of this game. We didn't give them a chance to make bad calls
Game 5 of the 2003 Finals is the last one I can remember. Best believe I was scared as when I saw him announced during such a huge game with the series at 2-2. I honestly can't believe how the guy has a job after not calling Finley for stripping the ball with both feet a foot out of bounds.
That's right. Actually, since that Game 1 of the 2003 WCF, Salvatore has only done 3 of the 27 playoff games the Spurs have played. He did Game 5 of the 2003 Finals (win), Game 4 of the 2004 WCSF in LA (loss), and last night's game (win). It hasn't been that bad, but perception can be reality and most savvy fans won't soon forgive Big Whistle Bennett for his generally atrocious calls.
Memphis. Bad clock start. Spurs get boned. He also reffed Denver game 1, when they went to the line 30-19 over us at home.David Jones is decent.
98 FT attempts (Dallas 49-50 on theirs) is hard to erase from the memory banks.
Pop was joking around with him in 1st quarter...I think Salvatore was in a good mood yesterday....for a change.
Yeah, TPark, I can't go with you on that one. David Jones is often out of position and thus, makes too many calls on his feel rather than what actually happens. I think he also tends to play to momentum too much with his calls. If you're just going on results, I think you're wrong, but if you're actually judging his ability, I think you're really wrong. I was VERY surprised to see him on the whistle in a second round game.
I'd be surprised if he's calling games past the middle of this week; after the Game 3's in this round, the league narrows down the pool to pretty much just 18 or so guys who'll call the conference finals. David Jones won't be in that group.
I hated seeing Salvatore out there at the beginning of the game, but then I saw Pop joking with him and thought maybe, just maybe he wouldn't bend us over. Thank God the Spurs didn't even give him a chance. Bullet has been dodged for a while - we shouldn't be getting or Bennett until at least mid 3rd round.
What the happened to Joey Crawford? He hasn't reffed a game since the Mavs - Rockets' game where Cuban ed.
