6 is pretty ing re ed.
1. Bench could not execute sets.
2. Not physical, took punishment but didn't give it back.
3. Still can't handle ginobili. Stop him and you'll win by 20+
4. Transition D. Spurs started running for a bit and racked up a bunch of points.
5. Collins. This guy sucks.
6. Nash scoring too much. Somehow got 10 assists, but somethin is broken when he scores 30+.
7. Physical, I put this twice because ginobili was clawing, grabbing, pushing, flopping. Give him a real reason to fall down.
8. Subs utions. Gentry could have timed it better to stave of Spur runs.
9. Pick and roll broke. Perhaps spurs D, but this was not working at all.
10. Rebounding. Need to do a better job of boxing out. Also, Teams like Spurs, Lakers, and Jazz always have some player swipping at you even after securing the rebound before you get it to a guard. Hold it like it's your life.
^He's giddy, Muse, and doesn't know how to act.
I thought Gentry left Richardson on the bench too long to start the fourth. They guy had finally found his range at the end of the third, and he then sat for 20+ minutes. He really took a chance that Richardson would still be feeling it when back in. They need to do some pic-n-rolls with Richardson in hopes of switches, so he can post up on whomever was guarding Nash, as that was something that worked well and could get Parker into some foul trouble if he's switched onto Richardson.
Definitely agree. Gentry has been tweaking the lineups constantly. I think he's trying to combat the Spurs attempt to keep starter quality players in at all times like having parker come off the bench.
What scared me the most was how much he rode the bench before bringing the starters back in at the start of the 4th. I love Dragic, but when it comes to crunch time or when it becomes obvious he's having trouble with what the spurs are doing. Bring Nash back in ASAP. His back can rest in the off season.
I'm OK with giving Nash some extended rest, and such will be a blessing if this series goes 6/7 games. However, Amare and Richardson can play and play and play provided they aren't in foul trouble. They don't need 20+ minutes of rest at a time. Bring them both in, then give situational breathers late with timeouts or strategic subs if needed. If Richardson is hot, you need to ride that shot until he's missed three in a row.
Also, I agree about fouling players like Manu. Either stay clear so he can't exaggerate small contact for a 3-point play, or put him on his ass before he gets the shot off. Nothing flagrant, but good hard playoff fouls. I nice mix could have him constantly looking for the hard foul, which could in turn lead to a miss here or there on an otherwise make.
I agree with #6.
I would think the Spurs would rather see Nash score 30 with 5 assists than see him get 10 points and 15 assists.
This really got to me last night. It's the playoffs. Either give them the basket or a good clean hard foul on the arms. And you're right. Parker won't do it, but ginobili will flail all over to get the and 1. Smack them a few times to make them think about whether they're going to get hit or not when driving.
Portland man handling the heck out of the suns and the spurs are doing the same thing. Worried about fouls? Let Amundsun and Collins do some beating. Guess it would be easier if Lopez was back to give them some more fouls and keep a big.
Yeah Gentry needs to do a better job sensing when to put the starters back in in the 4th, but I'll take that over a coach who doesn't use his bench and runs Nash into the ground. I know the stats say Phoenix was up by 10 when Nash left and up by 8 when he re-entered so that's only a 2 point swing, but the bench had the lead at 14 for a good portion of the 4th and Gentry put the starters back in when SA was on a 6-0 run. In other words, SA had all the momentum when the starters re-entered.
Yeah, the bench needs practice. I'm guessing he wants to give the starters as much rest as possible to close the game. This worked with portland who'd damn near play their starters the whole game (no one left). Surprisingly, both the Suns and Spurs logged very heavy minutes with their starters. I was expecting it to be more towards the spurs.
I don't think the starters and bench should simply be used in waves as starters or as the bench. Mix it up a bit. If a player has a hot hand, play 'im with the other wave. I'm fine with resting Nash, but if Dudley and Barbosa aren't hitting shots, then the second unit will struggle to score, so put Amare and Richardson in and see if that helps.
Well it's gonna be a series where the starters play heavy minutes, I'm never a fan of Hill or Nash getting that many minutes but desperate times call for desperate measures. On the road though Grant isn't gonna be able to handle that kind of minute load Gentry will need to adjust. If we're going starter heavy, win at all costs rotation, my rotation is:
Nash 36 Dragic 12
J-Rich 40 Hill 8
Hill 25 Dudley 23
Amare 40 Amundson 8
Collins 10 Frye 32 Amundson 6
If Lopez is healthy:
Nash 36 Dragic 12
J-Rich 40 Hill 8
Hill 25 Dudley 23
Amare 40 Frye 8
Lopez 32 Frye 16
Regarding Barbosa, if he keeps playing like last night, in other words doesn't force it when it's not there, plays below average defense rather than unbelievably ty defense, and doesn't hold onto the ball dribbling in one spot, I'm content. I still find it brazen beyond belief for him to say he wants more minutes given how he's played when he got minutes.
LoL R.J.F
I don't know, I'd be pretty happy if Nash never scored 30 again this series.
i was too scared to watch this game and was waiting for cubby under my bed
tee hee
I found some gumption and watched it until the Spurs started acting like the Mavs.
I should've called, Swords.
tee, hee.
if suns stop...spurs stop. Deal?
sorry... but i've been saying this for years haha
Seriously when this guy gets a rebound I think the safest thing he can do is just throw the ball out of bounds.
Jazzy!!!!!!!!!!! Sweetheart!!!!!!!!!! Pumpkinpuss!!!!!!!!!!!!
