Many of didn't see that we will fall to the Suns in 4 games, even losing to the Suns in the semifinals but this is the NBA and anything can happen. Spurs have been eliminated out of the playoffs 3 straight years since sweeping the Cavs in 2007 and winning the le. In order for the Spurs to contend in the next year or two, we need to get better role players and some big men. The first thing the Spurs FO needs to do is:

1.) Don't re-sign Keith Bogans, Roger Mason, bring over Splitter

We just can't afford to have role players be bench warmers come playoff time, Bogans was brought in to play defense but that's just as teaching Shaq to shoot free throws at this point of his career, doesn't work like that. Mason did well for us last year stepping in for injured Parker/Ginobili but his time has run out.

2.) Re-sign Matt Bonner, Develop Hairston, Temple, Mahinmi, Give them a chance

Many of us seem to hate Bonner but I actually like this guy because he tries so hard to succeed at what he does and it's working...at times. Bonner can play SF for us, I would slide him down because him playing C for the Spurs will not bring anybody good. Put him at SF, because he can take the ball off the dribble and score but only bring him back to play 10-15 minutes a game during the season and possibly up to 10 in the playoffs if he is playing good. We have to give Hairston and Temple a chance. I see potential in both of them and also Mahinmi, I just can't see why Pop didn't play him more, he couldn't have been worse than Bogans, Mason.

3.) Get rid of Jefferson via trade, possibly Tony Parker

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think that moving Jefferson will ask for the Spurs to move one of Hill or Parker. Possibly Parker because he is better, and possibly our biggest trade value. I love Parker and I don't think we should move him but if he is unsure about his future in San Antonio then trade him. One of the trade scenarios I would consider is Parker, Jefferson, Blair to the Raptors for Bosh, Turkoglu, Calderon. I know that we would take on the contracts of Turk and Jose but I think it would work out for the next 3-4 years while Duncan and Manu still have juice in them. I think that the Raptors would be all over this trade because they get rid of Turks and Jose's contracts and receive Parker's and Jefferson's expiring contracts plus they get Blair. This would bring a starting lineup to the Spurs that consists of Duncan, Bosh, Turkoglu, Ginobili, Calderon/Hill.

4.) Draft a SF in the draft, possibly Stanley Robinson

Spurs should be all over this guy if he is available at #20. 6'8 SF, best comparison is Gerald Wallace if he lives up to the potential. He can run, block shots, has a nice mid-range jumper, can develop a nice shot behind the 3 point line, just look at George Hill and what Chip did with him.

5.) Sign a center and wing player in Free Agency possibly Brendan Haywood, and players like Outlaw, Raja Bell mayne eveb Rudy Fernandez

Haywood is a center that can start for us or come off the bench, he is long, can block shots and he can score. I named the other 3 because they all can shoot the 3 ball and Bell and Outlaw are somewhat good defensively, Bell is a great defender.

I named some other scenarious that could be possibly for the Spurs but our roster could look like this next season if the Spurs decide to trade Tony Parker.

    C: Duncan // Haywood // McDyess
    F: Bosh // Splitter // Bonner
    F: Turkoglu // Outlaw // Robinson
    G: Ginobili // Bell
    G: Hill // Calderon

Get some guys with excellent foot speed and length and who can shoot. Do some homework, No one envisioned Frye or Dudley as legitimate 3 pt. shooters but the suns did and more importantly made them work on thier shooting and then gave them the opportunity to grow as the year went on. We also will need a big who can score, rebound and play defense, and that's going to be tough, since there aren't many giants with that kind of talent. Maybe Splitter will help if he comes over, but my feeling is he won't ever be a Spur.

Bonner at SF is a terrible idea. He doesn't have the athleticism to guard the kinds of players that play at that position. Also, Bonner can't take the ball off the dribble very well. I also disagree with getting rid of Tony. He was the most consistent player in the playoffs. If they're going to draft a SF, Robinson would be a bad choice. He doesn't have very good BBIQ and he was extremely inconsistent in college. His athleticism was what allowed him to succeed and that will be diminished in the NBA. I would rather see Paul George or Quincy Pondexter if the Spurs are gonna draft a SF.

The last team the Spurs want to send a player like Parker to is the Rockets. Everyone still has a bad taste in their mouth from the Scola deal. No way they send Tony there also.

Bonner can play SF for us
Because you have not lived until you've watched Bonner guard LeBron. The rate of fatal brain aneurysms in S.A. would e 3000%.

Also, Jefferson + Parker could only get you Bosh + (Turkoglu or Calderon) at best, even with Blair (who is paid relatively nothing). We can't trade Parker without getting a point guard in return, and Calderon is a liability on defense from what I've read.

I do think this is going to be a fascinating summer for the Spurs though. I just wish everything weren't so far away.

Bonner can play SF for us but like off the bench, not consistently, like Pop can put him out there if he can play against that other SF on the other team if you know what I mean

We would not do it.....Parker is slowing down and we like Brooks a lot- with Yao we need a PG with a 3pt shot....that is not Parker....but you guys can have Ariza for someone...who ya got?

Sign and trade Bonner and Mason and we'll throw in Bogans for free.

Sorry dude. Bonner absolutely CANNOT play SF. , he cannot play any of the frontline positions that well. He's just a one-trick pony - a perimeter-chucking big. He shouldn't even be a rotation player on a playoff team. This is now 2 consecutive years of playoff failure for him. What more does anyone (fans or coaches) need to see?

If the Spurs are to significantly upgrade the talent level of this roster to stay compe ive, Bonner cannot be brought back. He doesn't belong. The Spurs do not need any contributing players whose jump shots go on vacation at the end of the regular season, as the team enters the playoffs.

This post-season should be further proof that the Bonner experiment is done (or should be). He's a fine bench player during the regular season, but he disappears in the playoffs. That's two years in a row now that he's been a huge liability. Bring Splitter over to play next to Tim, then play Dice and Blair off the bench.

Some of the Spurs intentions will become pretty obvious really soon as the inevitable leaks or stories by Buck Harvey suddenly appear about how certain players created issues.

    My dos centavos:

    Keep:

    Duncan (Spur for Life)
    Ginobili (Spur for Life)
    Hill

Tradeable (but keeping is ok too):

Parker (Deserves to be Spur for Life but maybe he prefers French Natl Team)
    Blair
    McDyess
    Jefferson

    Get:

    Splitter

    Maybe Get:

    Javtokas
De Colo (or whatever his name is)
That greek PG that KBP goes nuts over

Try to trade (or just can):

Bonner (good when you dont need him to be good, bad at all other times, tradeable)
Mason (lost his mojo someplace, hes a good guy, maybe even tradeable)
    Mahimi (a big time bust)
Temple (meh, might be good someday)
    Bogans (meh)
    Hairston and the rest (gone)

sorry, but have you ever heard about the CBA and what a cap is? or that there are rules for trades? and that the other team needs to agree to a S&T, so they won't agree to stupid trades. aside all that, I guess I never read that much nonsense in one post. "Bonner at SF because he can dribble"..... yeah sure.

I really think Bonner could get away playing backup SF, or the third string SF. He gets abused down low because of his height and PF/C spot are usually players 6'11 and taller. We can have Duncan and possibly McDyess down low next year and have Bonner behind the arc, find the right play and get him open. Spurs have Bonner, Hill and Ginobili that can shoot beyond the arc, we just need to add 2 more shooters, one of them that is deadly and the one that will cost you everytime you leave him open.

If only this could be done. Battier is one of the best players in the league at his position.

But yeah I think Ariza would be a great fit for this team, same with Battier, they are both good defenders and Battier can shoot the corner 3. Ariza is a slasher and I think he would be a much better fit than Jefferson, I mean Ariza fit in well with the Lakers playing off Kobe, Gasol, kind of the same situation he would be if he comes here.
