This is the first time I take a look at his averages, and I can't believe a guy like him is putting such lowsy scores!! I mean yeah I know, he's a defensive behemoth, but you would think that with his height, weight, and power he'd manage to score a bit more points than just 6!!! this just amazes me.

He was told not to try to score when he was playing under Rick Carlisle. Over the last two seasons, he's averaged almost 10ppg under Larry Brown because they began to use him as an offensive option and he began to look for his shot. I know that's not huge. But 10 is much better than 6.

He's got very quick feet. He made a couple of moves around the basket that were quite impressive. His offensive game is developing, and as a big man who plays alongside a post-scorer, he does a great job of staying out of the way but still gets in position for putbacks.

true that. But should we play them in the Finals I would do
my best to keep him outside the paint, T-mass could bang him around a little.

Wait, why are we complaining that Ben Wallace doesn't score 20 pts a night!?!

Do you know how insane the Pistons would be then?

Well thats true, but still amazing how poor his offense must be for someone to advise him to NOT TRY TO SCORE, especially when he seems to posses the qualities that often produce a great offensive threat. Except maybe a good jumpshot, hehehe

I dont know what the he is looking at when he shoots but it is just doodoo. Even from 10ft away he can airball, how can you airball with guns like that.

He airballed a FT last night, which made him 1/8 FTs at that point. Typical big man klutzy-ness.

Having big, ripped muscles has nothing to do with co-ordination, and Ben doesn't have much, which you can tell from watching him just run.

But, late in the season, he's been avging a double-double:

... including games of 21 and 29 pts.

Big Ben's job is to play defense, blocks shots, and get rebounds. He really doesn't have too much offensive talent, what he can only do is pretty much finish oops and dunk. Detroit doesn't really need Ben to score, they have plenty of offensive weapons.

The Bruce Bowen effect. While Bowen is capable of scoring much higher (assuming trips to the foul line don't proportionally increase as well), he plays defense. That is his job. That is what got him his contract. Part of the reason he's so good defensively is because he is able to expend all his energy guarding the opponents, not scoring over them.

It's no coincidence that the two finished 1st and 2nd for the DPOY award.

Compare Ben to Rasho (as laughter fills the forum). Rasho's ppg average is 7.4. The Spurs lean on his interior D. No one expects him to put up big numbers considering his surrounding cast and his own role.

Actually Ben used to suck at scoring and this year he brought up his offensive game. He has scored a lot more this year than he ever has.

They would never run plays for him in the past. All of his points came from put-backs and alley-oops.

I think Larry Brown is actually running a couple of plays for him a game.

yup.. he was more defensive (well thats what he was assigned to do) oriented anyway. than scoring. hence the points.

this season his scoring has increased dramatically.
