You really watch a lot of MSNBC.
Chris Matthews wonders. He also talks about executing the oil executives.
This was probably after he spent a half hour discussing how hateful and "monochromatic" the Tea Party movement is.
I like the expression on the faces of his two (white) guests after he says China would execute the BP executives. They're both like WTF?
You really watch a lot of MSNBC.
happily, Chris Matthews has no more policy influence than does Rush.
They don't have industrial accidents in socialist or communist countries, according to his logic. Chris Mathews is flipped out crazy.
I find it insane a country that uses so much oil hates it so much. How'd Chris get to work this morning ?

Nationalizing our oil would be a good investment. Might help pay off some debt and would probably make it safer.
So you would let the people who build the Nawlins levies be in charge of the oil?
I would do it because the industry directly affects our national security. The energy industry as a whole should be nationalized.
lol homie, the white house could create gold out of twinkies and they would still never come anywhere close to paying off some debt.
Don't get why people love monopolies so much.
If i run a hamburger joint and I'm informed the meat has poison that can and will kill but i serve it anyway to meet my dollar quota and thus people die, did i share in causing their death? For that matter did i cause their death?
If i have a car that I'm fully informed the breaks are going to blow, i choose to ignore all the warnings and drive anyways and kill someone am i guilty of murder?
BP snakes ignored all the safety stop gaps.
So you are an advocate of capital punishment for criminal negligence? Sounds reasonable.
Yeah, I'm sure our oil prices would be consistently great with the speed government does business. You know, the same govt that invaded an oil rich nation over nothing while the homeland's gas prices skyrocketed..
Guilty of murder? Oh yes and as such they should recieve appropriate prison terms and the murdered victims families be compensated, along with all the other people ripped off by this ie jobs lost/effected.
Advocate of capital punishment for them? No that's not for me to judge, anyone can turn their life around and do good to others, even oil pigs.
Advocate of doing nothing to them, they get off scott free?
No way Lionel.
DarrinS
Does anybody think BP WANTED this to happen?
mmmm twinkies...

To both of you - this is the slippery slope that we really don't need to go down. Socialism, which is exactly what both of you are advocating, hasn't proven to be as effective as many think or believe. Great Britian tried it in the '70s and the economy suffered greatly which directly lead to Maraagret Thatcher's election in the '80s. A socialistic approach to managing national resources takes out the individual and makes the collective supreme. Capitalism for all its warts has created the highest standard of living in history. Even though there are problems regarding the disrtibution of wealth in that economic model it is far superior to any and all existing ones.
I understand your concerns but once you go down that road then future generations only will take it a step further. IMHO All I need to look at is the income tax. Passed in 1916 at 2% has lead us to what we have today. The politicans in 1917 who saw the returns of that law immediately moveds to have it increased again. People today take for granted the income tax structure we live under but government knows a good thing when it sees it. We used to be a nation based on gross income but now we look at the net. Taxes in ths country are almost 50% of the gross income most people make - that includes ferederal and state income taxes + sales taxes + SS and Medicar etaxes + registration/user fees on all levels. The old Raaagan saying " if it moves tax it" comes to mind. Not that this nation doesn't need to tax it's people in order to provide for the people but I think it has gone too far in it's role. Just MHO.
But if the government does nationalize it whats to prevent it from nationalizing any and all businesses that use natural resources as their product line? Of effect the nation on a wide scale? Especially if it effects national security? Noe that's a really good one since you could nationalize most anything and make an agruement that it effects national security.
So let's natialize the following:
Oil/Gas
Banks
Water
Lumber
Agriculture
Mining
Fushing
Automotive
Aerospace
Shipping
Freight transport
Railroads
Why not eventually natioalize all industries since if it effectst he poeple of the nation then the government has the right to oversee it and make it equitable.
"Why not eventually natioalize all industries"
typical red herring and straw man.
That's not what's being proposed, so no need to riposte.
How can you say that when they "screwed" up trying to get rid of a cat
house in Vegas.

If we're going to execute anyone lets just knock off the entire congress. Seriously, talk about years of serious mismanagement.
My most recent gripe: the Defense Department is trying to trim down its massive budget by offering reasonable cuts by eliminating programs that they deem either unneccesary at least ones we can live without for now. Some of that huge spending they plan to kill is major purchases (such as more C17 airplanes and modern Submarines). The defense department deems these purchases unneccesary at least for the moment and is willing to trim billions off the budget. However, senators, not wanting to eliminate jobs in their states, are placing these items back in the defense budget to ensure they happen. How is that responsible? The selected "experts" who oversee the military are doing their part. Man the up and deal with it. Stop playing to your voter base and do the country a favor for once.
Wasn't the first time this has been suggested.
I wasn't really being that serious, but if you are, then do I really need to remind you of how well the alternative is doing while hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil are floating around in the Gulf?
Which I then could retort that you are just trying to belie to public. The goal of socialists IS to natinalize all major industries to "better" benefit society. I agree that many on the right do use this type of language to incite their followers but if you take out the emotional content and just strictly view the situation on it's mirets then the poossibility that it could lead to that is there. All I wanted to do was to make that concern known.
Nor is that what was being proposed by me either. I was wanting to express my concern that if you start down that road how do you stop or slow down? The nationalizing of all industries was more of a hypothetical worse case scenario/what if down the road our descendents felt like doing... a situation that I think needs to be guarded against.
The proposition to nationalize the industry for national security reasons was GGA's while DMX7 thought it a good investment which could lead to help paying down debt (I assume the national one) and make that industry safer. If successfull and the USA does nationalize the oil industry then you have just set a precedent by which the same argument could used against other industries. The next natural gas explosion will have the same argument leveled against it just like it was against the oil industry.
It's the slippery slope I was cautioning about.
Let's start with, if we're gonna nationalize/socialize stuff...with entertainment. Movies, music and sports. Let's nationalize THAT first then see how it goes.
You're tired of paying 'high prices' for gas. Well I'm tired of the price of a Spurs ticket and box office prices. Lets start there....
Did Jefferson give you your money's worth ?
How about Roger Mason ?![]()
