If Sarunas doesn't come over and make his bones in NBA any Euro should be forever banished if they pimp on him as a great player that could have owned the NBA.
He's too old to bring in for a learning curve. Dude is 29 already, and would be probably 31 before he learned how to play in the League.
And yet.... that would still be younger than Jason Kidd...

Yup. Even if he did learn, I do not think he would be a spectacular player or anything. The guy did play college ball here way back when. It's not like he doesn't know the American game that well.
And yet, Jason Kidd didn't begin in the NBA at 29. There is a point where it's just not worth bringing the player over. I thought the Spurs were pushing it with Manu at 25. I think thats' why they are drafting younger players from Europe now, with Parker taken at 19 and Sanikidze at 18.

There is some talk about his lack of defense, I beg to differ. He played for Gary William's Maryland team for 4 yrs. Williams is known as one of the best defensive teachers in college bball, and Sarunas played defense when he was at Maryland...if you don't play D, you sit on the bench...he was awesome at shooting the ball even back then, but played behind some better players, so did not get a whole lot of playing time. He has been playing a lot since college and now his game is ready for the NBA.
Put him with Pop, he will have him playing good defense in no time....I mean if he can get Glen Robinson to play defense, he can get Sarunas to play it too.
How long did it take Nocioni or Manu to learn enough to be effective?
Premise that he'd want to come to a le contender and add a team that is solid defensively to mask some of his limitations and I could see him with:
Cleveland (contender if they add a Redd or Joe Johnson)
Miami(maybe but hate to see him and Shaq on the P&R)
San Antonio (probably not)
Detroit (don't need him)
Chicago

for you dude:: saras donīt need to learn how to play in this league.. he is allready on a higher level than almost any player in league. marbury is playing in this league for several years, but he still sux.. saras is playing his game.. it s not even matter where. in euroleague or nba.. there s no difference for him..
and yes.. he can be spectacular!! in EL every game he create some awesome alleyoops with Anthony Parker and Maceo Baston.. putting Lebron on the court with him.. would be destroying combination.

manu took a year or two to play in the nba
he also was a very good player over there

Saras reminds me of Scott Skiles when he played in the NBA, except he's a better 3-pt shooter than Scott was. He is hot-tempered and fiery, almost to a fault. Saras could most definitely play well in the NBA, particularly so with teams going with 3 guards, a la Chicago, or as is the trend in the NCAA these days.
No, Manu was not good over there, Manu was god over there, and it took some time to explote, anyway even the 1st year and injured most of it, he contributed quite a lot (remember 2003 Playoffs).
My conclusion is that he has to adapt, and it would take him some time.

Sarunas would be a very good player off the bench, but he will get killed by real quick athletic pg's.
By the way, Manu would have had a much bigger impact if he had gone to a bad team his rookie year. Manu has played great since he's gotten here, it's not like he's improved so much these last few years. The only difference is they actually call plays for him and they run more motion.
You don't draft a rookie that's old and slow. If his game was NBA quality when he was younger and played for Maryland, then why didn't he play in the NBA at his physical prime?
Finally, why do we care? It's the playoffs for God's sake.

If you have had an oppty. to watch Saras lately (Olympics, Lithuanian NT or NBATV broadcasts of Maccabi game) he is not hard to notice. He is an exceptional player, floor-leader and shooter. That's why he gets attention in this forum.
