Im trying to plan a Grand Canyon turn-around trip and I don't even know where to start! It's so big...im not sure what part i'm suppose to visit. lol

I'll be in vegas, so I guess the closest point from vegas is where i should be going.

Any of you have any suggestions to what part or city i need to go to?

    Thanks!

I regret that I didn't have any time to do much when I was out there last summer. I just had time to spend a couple of hours there. Here's a few pics I took from the South Rim

There was a fire to the east that day, so everything looking east was pretty hazy. The area I came in from was Williams Arizona, just off I-40. If you're in good physical shape, the signature hike of the park, the Bright Angel Trail from the south rim to the Colorado River, begins in the area the photos were taken from. It's supposed to be a killer on the way back up though, with 5000+ feet of elevation gain. Another place I would definitely go when I have some time out there is Havasu Falls on the Havasupai Indian Reservation.

That would also have to be an overnight though, as I believe it's a 20-mile roundtrip at pretty low elevation, so it's going to be getting pretty hot. I think they have a hotel at the reservation though, if you're not into tents and all.

The North Rim is a bit higher, and more heavily forested according to some of my friends who have been, so it should be a bit cooler too.

    hey BB..thanks for the photos.

Im only going to stay there for a day. 5 hour drive from vegas. From what I researched, the place to go is Grand Canyon Village right? I was thinking of staying there for a few hours..have some lunch, then head back to vegas. Does that seem to work?

Nah, it was a Minuteman sentry point and having Japanese blood disqualified me from it.

That's the area I went in. From that area, you could do a quick walk (walk, not hike ) around the rim trail which is pretty nice and was in the high 60s the morning I was there last August.
