What a stupid question to ask.
I wouldn't have even answered it.
Was asked to comment on the comment that Stoudemire is on same level as Tim Duncan and Shaq.
AJ said that he was not. Dan Patrick asked again incredulously if that was true that Amare was not as good as Tim Duncan.
AJ said that TD and Shaq are in a different stratosphere, and until Amare wins a couple of championships or MVPs, then he is in the next level down from those two.
Way to go AJ, you are not sucking up to Phoenix and Amare with coachspeak...you are tell the truth, and are not affraid of bulletin board material, and retribution by Phoenix.![]()

Dan Patrick was just asking him to comment of what some tv commentator said, I think it was Bill Walton.
That Dan Patrick is gotta be dumb as to ask that
see above post.
dan is not dumb.
Now it all makes sense![]()
Amare's stats speak for themselves....
so do his pushups.
Why does everything that Walton says piss me off?
"He'sh the greatest player in the hishtory of the nba!!"![]()

So did Derrick Coleman's and he was never a great player, despite putting up 20/10 over a long career. Although some great players put up stats, stats don't make the player great. His effort level is lacking. How does someone of that size and athleticism average less than nine rebounds a game over the course of three seasons? He's a pretty crappy post defender, too. He made Erick Dampier look like Shaq in the post for game 2. Until he's ready to do the dirty work, and not just run out on the break, he won't be a great player.
No player better than Shaq and TD at this time. If anyone think any one better than TD and Shaq ,then they don't have clue about games. I am not Shaq fan but I have to accept him as one of the top two player in NBA
He doesn't have the post game that TD and Shaq have, but he has a great face up game and his J keeps looking more solid every season. Naturally his game fits quite well with Nash.
Unlike Clavin I think his game isn't that bad. He's got a ways to go to be at the TD/Shaq level but , Evil became a superstar getting passes from a great point guard...
You have to question his place in even the level directly below Duncan and Shaq, is Amare on par with guys like Garnett, Brand, JO'Neil, and Nowitizki? I remember how bad he was playing without Nash and you have to wonder, without all those dishes for high percentage dunks and layups, where would Amare be? He can be easily dominated without Nash, and a defense that limits the transition game and bothers Nash will take Amare out of the game.
Duncan and Shaq don't need dominant guards to be great, they need great players around them to win championships, but they don't need Steve Nash or Jason Kidd to have career years.
Besides, does Amare play defense at all? I think you have to bring it at both ends to be considered one of the great ones.
That's an easy one Walton is a Prick with a capital P.
He hates the Spurs. Always has.
ONE TEAM, ONE GOAL
Greatest Walton quote:
"Ahwww...Where would ya like it, Samaki?"
No he doesn't.He hates the Spurs. Always has.
Jim, I didn't mean it was dumb from the standpoint of someone really believing Amare was on that level... I just meant that it seemed like he was fishing for some kind of controversy.
The answer is obviously No, so asking Avery to comment basically corners him into giving chalkboard material to the opponent (unless he chooses not to answer).
That is 100% wrong. He hates the Spurs. Always has
Bill Walton was a big fan of theirs in 2003, and last year.
This year?? I have no clue cause I have hardly heard him commenting this year.
Actually with Walton it depends. If they are doing well, he is all for them, if they are losing...the other team is his favorite. He goes back and forth more than Anne Heche at a swingers weekend.
Amare does not even deserve to be in the same paragraph with Tim and Shaq.
Does not true he does like the spurs. He hates the Spurs. Always has.
Nine boards a game isn't bad, I notice you didn't mention any of his other stats like the fact that he averages five more points per game, six percentage points higher field goal percentage, he also shoots more free throws and has a higher percentage along with more steals per game than Tim Duncan. He also averages a respectable 1.6 blocks per game which isn't bad for a forward and is about one less than Duncan.
Don't forget that although Tim averages eleven boards per game the Suns are actually the better rebounding team so Amare has other capable rebounders as well such as Marion (11.3) who is only 6'7 and averages more rebounds than Tim Duncan.....
Oh my freaking God. PLEASE do not start citing statistics to say why Amare deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with Duncan, ESPECIALLY this year's numbers.
I understand that you were responding to someone else's statistics, but here's where there's a difference. Every stat that the Suns have is elevated by the huge number of possessions that happen in a game. That's why they allow so many points but actually have a decent defense.
There is absolutely no doubt that Amare has it all over Duncan in athletic ability, but Duncan has developed in so many other ways. I agree that Patrick was trying to paint AJ into a corner, and AJ just manned up and told the truth, unlike his center.
Walton's schtick is hyperbole. He's part of the circus that is the NBA. He doesn't take himself seriously so it's pretty silly for others to take him seriously and get bent out of shape by what he says. He and Barkley are the clown princes of the NBA.
