Since the 2-3-2 format went into effect the team with home court has won 19 of 25 series.

When the first two games split, the team that started the series with home court has won 7 out of 10 series.

Odds are against the Celtics. If they manage to win this they deserve major props.

The last higher-seed team to lose after a Finals 1-1 split? The 2004 Lakers.

Since the 2-3-2 format began, when the Lakers have homecourt in the Finals and split their first two games, they're 1-1, so the odds have this series as a coin-flip.

No. The Lakers are 2-1 when they have had home court and split the first two games.

Based on overall prior NBA finals series results which are more statistically significant than a small 3 game sample, statistically the Lakers should win 5 and lose 2 of the next 7 when they have homecourt and split the first two games. That's a 71% chance.

This would be one of the most amazing runs in NBA history by the Celtics to beat the teams with the three best regular season records in three consecutive series in a row, then overcome the finals home court odds which statistically gives them a 24% chance. That would be one of a parade in Boston.

I forgot about Detroit getting the split in 1988. So Kobe Bryant is 1-1 in 2-3-2 format Finals when having the homecourt and only getting a split, so the odds have this series as a coin-flip.
