ATM has received an invitation to the SEC. I've looked everywhere on the validity of this story but cant find anything. Anyone know anything about this?

    Intersting.

Would be even more intersting if they were to accept, becuase I think UT has no interest in going to the SEC, which means that the Big 10 might once again be in play if A&M accepted.

I wonder how valid that story is though, interesting nonetheless.

this is false yes a&m did talk to the sec but with colorado gone to the pac-10 and nebraska gone to the big 10, a&m will follow texas to the pac-10

    Got this from twitter:

Mayorofsports: Word from Austin. Ags to SEC was done yesterday but Gov. Perry shot it down. Didnt want split with UT. Many Ags infuriated.

MayorOfSports: Legendary Gene Stallings in another stare down with Gov. Perry over Ags to SEC.

MayorOfSports: Colorado to Pac Ten. Well played, Buffs. Baylor would replace Ags in Pac if they go to SEC.

Just saw on ESPN they confirmed that A&M got an invite from the SEC. They then flipped over to a guy in Austin who said that A&M and UT officials are meeting in Austin making sure that they're both on the same page. They seem fairly certain that both teams are going to the new "Pac-16" along with the other good Big12 teams.

I really hope aggie comes with us, don't want them opening up Texas hs football to the academically challenged SEC goons.

Very interesting stuff. I just want whatever keeps us playing for NCs.

Now KC TV station reporting that UT & ATM to BIG 10..

    Twitter:

MayorOfSports: TV station in KC says UT and A&M to Big 10. I don't believe it. Meanwhile, TT and Baylor have been allowed into meeting.

Who the knows what will happen. It would be nice if A&M goes to the SEC conference and UT to the BIG 10 conference and TECH to the PAC 10 (as of now) conference so we can possibily have a Texas Shootout in the national le game in the future. It could happen if all of the Texas teams stop holding hands and go their own way.

I know aggys are strange but I don't think theyre self destructive as an ins ution

The only division team aggy wins against is Baylor and now they want to go to the sec so Vanderbilt can take their recruits

    very doubtful

I would prefer they go to the Big 10, for football reasons, but also for research money reasons.

I read that TAMU got an invite to the SEC today, and had informally accepted, until Gov. Perry (TAMU alum) told them to stick by UT for the sake of the rivalry and go wherever they went.

The Big Ten makes even less sense geographically than the Pac-10.

As for Perry, what can he really do directly about where A&M wants to go? He may have a great deal of indirect influence (appointing regents), but can he really stop us from going?

Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott, University of Colorado President Bruce D. Benson, and University of Colorado–Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano held a conference call this afternoon to discuss the news that Colorado will be joining the Pac-10 in 2012.

Scott would not address specific scenarios that may see the Pac-10 continue to expand in the coming weeks.

Below are some of the comments Scott made during the 30-minute conference call.

This is a very exciting day for the Pac-10 Conference. We are just thrilled to be welcoming the University of Colorado. The Pac-10 has a very bright future [ahead of it].

We’ve been looking at Colorado for quite some time. It was clear to us that for any scenario, Colorado is a great fit... Under any cir stances we are thrilled to have Colorado be part of our conference.

Reaction to a report that Oklahoma State has accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10:

That would be news to me. No, that is not accurate.

On whether the Pac-10 will look to add more teams:
There are no assurances [that the Pac-10 will continue to expand past eleven teams]. No invitations have been issued.

On future expansion plans for Pac-10:
We are evaluating different options and waiting to see what might develop nationally before we decide what we might do next.

When the Pac-10 invited Colorado to join:
The first formal contact was on Tuesday after the [University of Colorado] Board of Regents met. That’s when an invitation was extended.

When the next move will be made by the Pac-10:
I can’t predict what kind of timing we might see here... Sometimes I’m having trouble predicting what is going to happen tomorrow.

The presidents and chancellors really have a bold vision for what they think the Pac-10 can be... The vision ultimately for being proactive, being innovative... stems from the vision of our presidents and chancellors.

    Go figure.

Dallas to Seattle is farther away then Dallas to State College, PA as a general point in Texas.

Most the Pac-10 is 2 time zones away. Have fun with those 10:30 p.m. kickoffs. 5 Big teams as of now and soon to be 6 with Nebraska are in the same time zone as A&M and UT.

I'm not seeing how it makes less sense geographically than the Pac-10, could you at least provide some points for discussion other than a general statement.

In the Pac-10, there would be two divisions of eight teams. In our division, we would have most of the same teams we had in the Big 12 south. We'd have a couple of games against the 'Pacific' division a year, but for the most part we'd be close to the people we'd play against in our division.

In the Big Ten there are already 11 teams (12 now with Nebraska). Assuming they add Texas and A&M, there are only two more teams to add to reach 16. Even in the best-case scenario if they added Oklahoma and Ok. State, half of the teams in our division (the teams we'd play most often) would be 700 miles or more away. http://statsheet.com/cfb/conferences/big-ten/map
