    I have like a 2001 hp that i want to get rid of. how can i make it a clean slate so it will work decently for the person i sell it to?

    Use the original windows CD you got with the computer to do a full format of the hard drive. Reinstall windows. Profit.

    exactly... but I'm not sure what the market is like for a nearly decade old computer. I've upgraded my computer entirely 4 times since then.

    it is worth between 50 and 100

    you can run the full recover or if it is xp you can go to users create a new user
    then log in using new user
    delete the user you had
    it is faster but it leaves all your programs on it but none of your personal data
