Richard Jefferson, Savvy Businessman
by Timothy Varner
When Manu Ginobili plays basketball, he plays with a rose between his teeth. His game is all skill and charm and sizzle. Falling in love with Manu Ginobili’s game really means falling in love.

Possibility of Jefferson traded next summer or mid-season: 65%
What other team grossly overpays over the hill or red haired Fs?
To who? Who will want him, and what gawd awful contract will the Spurs have to take back to get rid of him?
So you're saying it should have gone in the official thread?![]()
Possibility of a NBA team getting his bad contract - 0%
The Spurs are an NBA team, so I'd call that 100% instead.
this guy's comment is kind of what I was thinking. Seems like the spurs should make slight adjustments to "the system" to better incorporate RJ.
They did already. They moved Ginobili to the starting lineup and gave Parker the 6th man job. This starting trio (Jefferson, Hill, & Ginobili) was responsible for an impressive winning % and also that two week explosion where they laid waste to all the top seeds in each conference.
RJ plays good with manu, but I don't see Parker coming off the bench
Why not?
fine with me, but I wonder if it's fine with him. Guess there's nothing he can do about it though...
since they are making a big investment in RJ, seems like they would make some adjustments to the system with Parker starting, and better incorporate RJ as a scorer.
True. Parker will be starting again. This is a healthy Parker, which will hopefully resemble the TP of 08-09 as opposed to 09-10.
If they have any desire at all to sign TP to an extension this year, he will start.
Manu played 6th man for a number of years, they extended him. Again, I ask,.... why not?
Parker as 6th man has a hidden benefit as well..... Parker @ less minutes = less nagging injuries. Also forces Pop to use all those young guys he's been ac ulating.
Aside, from the the fact that Tony and Manu are two different people, Tony will probably be the Spurs' best player this season . . . and they are probably going to want to start their best player.
Now, before you retort, keep in mind that I don't see the point in getting into an argument with you over something that only a small, misguided group of people are willing to take your side on.
Was it so misguided last year when the spurs played their best basketball of the year when Parker was coming off the bench? Spurs fans' have short memories around here apparently.
It won't surprise me at all that eventually Pop will have no choice but to make Parker the teams' 6th man once again when the team stumbles out of the gate playing .500 or worse basketball. Jefferson & Parker in the starting lineup is simply a recipe for failure. Not enough spacing for the bigs to operate, or penetrators to find lanes. Compounded by the fact that half of Jefferson's effectiveness is predicated on people finding him in transition and cuts to the rim where he can take advantage of his athleticism around the basket. That just isn't Parker's game. Parker may carry the team for awhile on his back, but he won't keep that up an entire season. Eventually he'll burn out and start having nagging injuries that'll keep him out 8-10 games at a crack.
When the inevitable happens (and the meltdown threads come flying fast and furiously) should get interesting around here.
Right. That was a total basketball decision that had nothing to do with injuries. You do remember that Tony Parker was injured pretty much all year?
I would be shocked if any of that happens.
Parker an Jefferson have to figure out how to play together regardless of who starts. Are you suggesting that they will never be on the court at the same time?
I think everyone except you agrees that his "nagging" injuries were a direct result of his playing all summer for the French NT and not resting.
There are always meltdown threads here, nothing will change that.
Then why do you post here if you don't want anyone to retort on what you beleive? Sorry to break it to you, but we all have individual opinions, and it's not just about just what Ohmwrecker thinks.
You're an asshole if you disagree with him.
