My top five list of old-school:
1. Doom series
2. Duke Nukem
3. Heritic/hexen series
4. Rise of the Triad
5. Wolfenstein
1. Quake
2. Duke Nukem 3D
3. DOOM 2
4. Hexen
There was this FPS/RPG game from the mid nineties I use to play, but I can't remember the name. One weapon included a crossbow or something, I wish I could remember.
Duke Nukem 3D
Goldeneye 64
Quake 3
Counterstrike
back in the day for me was mostly n64. though i still played Doom on pc even though it was considered old by the time the 64 came out.
mine would be:
1. Goldeney 007
2. Turok 1
3. Half-Life. it would be higher but i never beat the game because it would keep freezing.
4. Doom. it was just too outdated by the time i got to play it.
The 3 Timesplitters games on the PS2 were damn awesome too. Wish they made a new one.
+ ing 1
I didn't consider Half-Life 'back in the day' (even though I guess it is) or it would be #1 on my list.
Counter-Strike would undoubtedly be first come to think of it, but I began to play it again![]()
Golden eye for N64
The original Team Fortress mod for Quake 1, Quake 2 CTF. rezistance's list is a UT dorm staple in the mid/late 90s![]()
The first TS wasn't that great but they nailed it with 2 and Future Perfect, I could sit on that game for days just playing the computer in the ton of game modes. If I could've played it online..![]()
Chex Quest
Team Fortress Classic
Doom was an instant multiplayer classic. I still remember hooking up a two or three 486DX2 boxes with 10Base2 using BNC connector wires for some memorable battles.
From those days, Duke Nukem 3D and Daikatana were great because of the over-the-top humor factor.
Closer to these days of internet fragging, I have to say that the last game that I played multiplayer a whole lot was Quake 3.
For single player, there's way too many to mention. Half Life, Half Life 2, Soldier of Fortune, Operation Flashpoint... lots of these also have great MP play, but I just wasn't much into that anymore.
All my faves have been mentioned except one : Redneck Rampage
Duke Nukem 3D
Star Trek: Elite Force
Unreal Tournament
WarRock
Chex Quest
HM:
Quake 2 (only played Quake 1 a few times, and Q3 itself was more an engine than a game)
Dark Forces (I preferred Jedi Outkast, but whatever)
Doom 1,2,3
Hexen
Heretic
Wolfenstien for me.
A couple of more that I really enjoyed (even though some have a mix of RPG):
- Vampire, the Masquerade
- Thief series
- System Shock series
- Deus Ex
- No one lives forever
- Rainbow Six series
- Clive Barker's Undying
In no particular order...
Wolfenstein (Never played more than the shareware though)
Goldeneye
Doom II
Perfect Dark
Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault
Obviously, Goldeneye.
But the game I played the most in my life by FAR was/is Soldier of Fortune 2.
you need to download DOSbox and get the full version. then you can see Hitler melt into a bloody mess.
i forgot about that game
