Cool, I will be expecting a Hero port shortly thereafter from the Dev community. It seems that from their perspective the Hero and Evo have much in common. Cool deal. I will have Froyo on Aug. 30th!
Fantastic news.

For those of you who don't know the difference, Froyo is around 5 times as fast as 2.1 (Eclair). Froyo also includes the ability to store apps to external SD cards, and features FULL FLASH SUPPORT. This is an awesome, awesome update to the Evo.

Never mind, I lied. Just looked it up. There is a FROYO ROM for the CDMA hero now (hadn't checked in a few weeks). I really like these open source Devs doing their thing.
I'm pretty psyched about this.
Hey, CH, random question, but have you had any trouble texting? There's been several times I've tried to text, I'll click on someone's name in the list of people I've recently texted, and it'll pull up someone's name 6 or 7 people down. It's kinda frustrating and a tad dangerous...seeing as how I almost called my mom a " " a couple a' days ago.
Weird. I haven't. I don't use the default texting program though, as I prefer the customization capabilities of Handcent. You should check it out, maybe it'll fix your problem.
Froyo tomorrow!!!!

yeah they started pushing it, let us know how it is.
Grabbing it now. Hope there's some battery improvement along with the quicker interface.
Unfortunately, it looks like the hotspot hack might be sealed off with this update,???
-_-
I still have never tried the Hotspot feature. How well does it work? I would consider cutting my mobile broadband contract and just using my Evo (I almost always have a USB cable that I can use to charge and run as a hotspot when necessary).
That was actually sealed off with the last OTA update.
One of my buddies:
and damn browsing is faster now on the phone.
and... flash ads, now i need an ad blocker
I still haven't gotten the update. I'm eagerly anticipating it.
I am flashing and rooting my Evo today with Froyo 2.2
I'll let everyone know how it goes.
EDIT: I'll also be installing a custom kernel, it seems.

Do I have to update? Like what if i don't want it?
Why wouldn't you want Froyo?
Nooo.
I kinda agree with sc. Any thing that can go wrong? I like the phone the way it is.
There have been no major problems I know of with the OTA update from HTC. It improves the phone in SEVERAL ways.
Full flash support.
LED Video support, superior video compression quality.
The new compiler in Android which is 5 times as fast as 2.1.
Moving apps to SD Card.
Better mul asking.
Etc.
I got it installed earlier and had trouble with Swype. I had to reinstall for it to work.
I have done any research on rooting but is there a risk for bricking? Also, are all the market apps available via download when it's rooted?
there's always a risk, but it's fairly minimal.
damn..when is verizon gonna get it?
you use verizon? Congrats you're made now.
So much for Hulu working. I got the not supported on this device error.
