    TP Interview
    « A nice gift from Manu »

Tony, this victory is welcome. Before playing Game 6 in Seattle, it was important not to miss Game 5.

Before all, I would like to take my hat off to Manu Ginobili. He played extremely well (39 points). Nothing we can say other than he carried the team throughout the game. Despite our two losses in Seattle, we were never in doubt. We know what we remains to be done. We have won this very important game tonight and now we must focus to do the same in Game 6.

You were a bit upset after Sunday’s lost…

It is true, I am not going to say the opposite! (Laughs) We have started the game with a lot of intensity and were aggressive. We defended well and did put some control on the rebounds and Seattle’s pick and roll. One thing is certain, we did play better.

You had to perform to get this win !

Wait a minute; Seattle is a very good team. They play god basketball and we know that they will not let us qualify like that. We did struggle a bit, we fought but in the end it was victory lane for us and it is all that matter.

Without Radmanovic and Lewis, we did not expect the Sonics to play at this level…

They played to the max. What gave us some trouble on the defense, is that they often line-up for smaller player on the field. This creates a match-up and as they are relatively accurate, we have to fight with them to make a difference.

You had a 9 points lead with 3 minutes to play before the half, but you went into the locker room tied at 50 a piece. What did Popovich say ?

I cannot tell you the opposite, but he was not too happy. Even if things went well at the end of the second quarter, we all stayed together and remained tight in the locker room. We did not panic and we showed that by going on a 17-3 run within the frst five minutes following the half.

As you said, Manu Ginobili was stellar all throughout the evening.

Yes he was very impressive. As he was on fire and sinking all is shots, we kept on feeding him the ball. Nothing could stop him, it was Gino 'The Great'.

You had a more difficult evening…

Yes, I struggle with my accuracy. I had some good looks to the basket; found myself alone a few time but the ball was not going in. Five lay ups stayed at rim level… This is not important, it just gives me a lot of motivation to play better Thursday.

He looked ill and/or gassed last night. Not making any excuses for him, but it's hard to believe he suddenly got afraid of contact given his playoff history.

Though not shoting the ball well, credits to TP for defense on L. Ridnour, zero turnover, and hitting a couple of clutch shots.

Hope he improves on Game 6.

I'm not in the least bit worried about Tony Parker. I was even glad to see him hit a couple of horse shots once the game had pretty much been decided late in the fourth. Some of those close up misses were highly frustrating, but its not like he's gone Brent Barry. I think Parker will find more creases and have a big impact on Thursday with Seattle's presumed preocupation with Manu, Tim and, now, Nazty Mohammad (coined that one from SAMikey!).

Tony will rebound from his slump and be huge in Seattle on thursday. We all know what he is capable of and his dissappearance has been greatly overstated. Mark my words......he will return!

Actually those end of the game shots were somewhat important....we all remember what happened vs. Houston and McGrady in less than a minute...those shots kept the Sonics at bay and prevented more of a nail biter.

He was driving to the basket more.....and he didn't make any really stupid mistakes....he had no TO's

If the spurs are going to win a le he needs to play better though.....consistently.

There is no doubt that TP has a lot of talent. He might even be faster than the Flash.
But he must be mentally strong so he can retain his focus and his intensity. I have high hopes that TP will rise to the occasion for the rest of the playoffs. No small task, considering that if the Spurs knock out the Sonics, Tp will be guarding Nash (or Terry) and Chauncey Billups in the near future.
But first, let him take Little Luke to school.

he might show up every now and then but unlike manu he can only do one thing which is score. and not that well i might add with his shaky jumper.

Does only one thing? Tony Parker is a point guard, he is out there to set up the play and does a great job at that. He plays good D on opposing PG's, can get a hand in for a steal and has great court vision, his role is different than Ginobili's so you can't compare the two.

I am concerned that he says this gives him more motivation to play well on Thursday. This is the playoffs, that alone should be all the motivation he needs.
