Bragging BMW driver busted by web post
The Canadian Press - The Canadian Press
VAUGHAN, Ont. - Police say a BMW driver who bragged about his speeding on a social networking site was later convicted on careless driving charges.
York Regional Police say Vladimir Rigenco, 19, of Vaughan, Ont., is banned from driving for six months and sentenced to 12 months probation after he entered a guilty plea.
He must also complete a remedial driving program and pay a fine of $1,000.
Police say a U.S. man contacted officers in early April about a social networking website for BMW fans, where a suspect had posted a message saying he drove his car 100 km/hr over the speed limit in Vaughan.
The online community reacted to the post and urged the driver to slow down and be more cautious.
On April 16, officers arrested and charged Rigenco in connection with the careless driving incident.
He was convicted Aug. 5.

That's pretty ed up. He's an idiot but unless they caught him speeding, they shouldn't be able to arrest him on a web post alone.
did the police actualy contact the website and ask for IP log? that's ed up if they did. Canada
I can understand they do it for murders/rape, but speeding??
They were probably notified, threw some undercovers on him and caught him that way. I can't imagine Canada's legal system is THAT different. I understand that they are a whole other country and all, but that is a pretty wide chasm legally.
Oh, and at that speed, it's not just speeding anymore.
that's what I was thinking. I could post on spurstalk that I satisfied 3 women at the same time last night...That's pretty ed up. He's an idiot but unless they caught him speeding, they shouldn't be able to arrest him on a web post alone.
doesn't mean it happened.
was there a need to include the fact that it was a BMW. What is up with this car brandism??
People speed in all kinds of cars. Stop the stereotyping.
Well he did post it on a BMW driver fansite.
you realize it was km/hr and not mph, right?
If the speed limit was 60mph thats only like 120mph...
+1
If this were the case, there would be a lot of people with troll accounts here at ST getting arrested.![]()
120 mph will get you reckless endangerment, I am pretty sure (yes I did know that it was Kmph). He was going 62 mph over the speed limit, whatever that speed limit was.
While we are on the topic at hand, I saw a report where a swiss driver was caught speeding at 180mph. He might get a $962,000 fine as per swedish laws. They base the fine on the offender's income and gravity of the crime.
I think that's what we should do here. a $200 fine is a drop in the bucket for a richer but if he gets tagged with 500-1mil in fines, that will make him think twice next time.
Damn! I got clocked at 126 when I was 23...talked my way into a warning ticket...I was driving a custom Vette and the cop had just bought a Vette the same year model the week before. We BS's about performance improvements for 15 minutes and he wrote me up for 60 in a 55 and made it a warning...
Wow. All he had to say is I lied.
Pakistan has highways?
No No No, you misunderstood. He drives 100 Mules Per Hour.
Smelly ones?
so if he posted it on the internet it must be true!

He admits to the speeding when the police began an investigation
@ you guys thinking they just bagged him without any evidence
Exactly what I was thinking, people post like that all the time on the car forums. Especially the hi performance ones, they even post threads that they raced a certain type of car and "smoked" it. All he had to say was that he lied about it and the police wouldn't be able to prove it.
Trick there is always say you raced in Mexico.
Dude, we ran my 54563465 hp suped up car againt this honda ricer. I smoked him! We did it in Mexico.
