Why is the Sprint one the only Galaxy variant with a front facing camera?
Forgive me for posting what seems to be an advertisement... this is just too good not to post.

Unreal. The most powerful phone in the US for a penny with contract. Hard to beat that.
Why is the Sprint one the only Galaxy variant with a front facing camera?
According to a review of the Galaxy S it should have a front facing camera. The camera being used looks like the Vibrant on T-Mobile and not the Epic as the Epic has a slide out keyboard. That is strange that it wasn't added to the others.
A quick side question to CH, does the Evo have a native app for the video chat? I know my friends and I could chat using Fring between the iPhone and the Evo, but he had to use another app to talk with another Evo. Did we miss something there?
Yeah, it's called Qik. It's included on all Evo's. Works pretty well too.
My friend says he downloaded that app. That's the one he was playing with. He didn't like the quality that he was receiving but we theorized that his picture looked bad because our friend didn't turn on her 4G when she logged on, so she was sending an inferior quality video to him while he was sending a higher quality video to her. On her phone the image he was sending looked better.
Cry, you rock. My wife's phone just died, and we were looking at replacements. This just might be it.

The Epic is the only one of the bunch with a front-facing camera so you can video chat over a built-in program called Qik or stream video live to Qik's website. From what I have seen on my friend's EVO, Quik looked bad on 4G to WiFi here in Austin. His chat with his wife was really pixellated, could have been a bad connection though. Hacked Facetime over 3g looked better.Unfortunately, neither worked that well when I tried chatting with a friend on another Sprint phone, the HTC Evo 4G. My friend looked like a pixelated mess on my phone, and he thought I looked distorted on his. With Wi-Fi, he looked clearer, but still more like a pointillist painting than a person.
I chatted on 3G with a friend of mine, and it was actually quite good. A little distortion of the lens, but definitely acceptable. I haven't even tried it on 4G yet.
Check it out Cry... those aren't the only 1 cent phone offers...

Of those though, the Vibrant is by far the most capable phone.
yo CH i have no idea if you know but i'd like to hear your opinion about what i'm going to ask you(for real man!). why did samsung not up the specs on the galaxyS to compete with the evo? the screen is nice on the galaxyS but i'd still rather get an evo.
Yeah, but TMobile coverage seems to suck here in Honolulu.
What specifically are you referring to?
Tiniest violin. Ever.
You ass.![]()
The specs on the Galaxy S seem capable of competing with the Evo from what I've seen. The screen may be smaller but the resolution is the same. The processor speed seems to be equal and the color and contrast on that AMOLED screen is no joke. I had a Samsung Impression with the first AMOLED screen and the color and contrast on it was amazing.
As for Qik, not to get into an iPhone v. Evo thing but FaceTime did seem to be clearer than Qik. Fring produces about the same quality as Qik it appears.
This is why I am confused by koriwhat's post. He's incorrect, the processor AND video processing of the Galaxy S are ahead of the Evo by a slight but noticeable margin, one that is actually pretty drastic for gaming. The S runs a Hummingbird chip which is a new processor, vs. the older Snapdragon that the Evo uses. The Galaxy S has about 3 times the triangle fill rate of the Evo (~90 million vs. 30 million). On raw power, the S is actually faster than a Ps2!
Like I said, I've had really respectable video calls over 3G with the Evo and Qik. I imagine with 4G it would be even better. It might be an area-dependent thing, because as I said, aside from a bit of distortion, it was completely acceptable on the Evo.As for Qik, not to get into an iPhone v. Evo thing but FaceTime did seem to be clearer than Qik. Fring produces about the same quality as Qik it appears.
I know, I know. I feel very lucky to have gotten orders here. If it makes you feel any better, I spent 5 1/2 years in Biloxi for my last assignment.
I just got back from there.... maybe I should post pictures from my trip in The Club. I absolutely LOVED it there... went snorkeling... petted some wild sea turtles.... etc. Had an absolute blast.
Snorkeling in Biloxi, MS? You actually went into that water? It's ok for a vacation... if you like gambling. Living there is different. Especially when most of the places you like get destroyed by a hurricane.
The best thing about Biloxi is that it's only an hour and 15 mins from New Orleans.
Oops, should have been more descriptive. Haha. Not Biloxi. I was in Kona for about 10 days. Went around the island, saw Hilo, Akaka Falls, etc. Was an amazing trip.
