    I don't think it's just a USB dongle.

true, chinese copies should come soon at significantly lower costs. Nice piece of reverse engineering for sure though, must have been a lot of work.

Word is that's basically a copy of the USB dongle Sony techs use to repair/reprogram consoles with a few tweaks. It also looks like the thing has been in the underground since sometime last year, but just got out of the bag.

Between 20-45 Gigs... but I guess the idea is not necessarily to download them.
Rent/Dump would probably work too. An external 2TB USB drive is not that expensive these days.

depends on whether sony sends out new USB kits every time firmware is updated.

They claim the dongle can be updated, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.
Supposedly, the dongle actually prevents the system from taking updates, so at least until new games require newer firmware versions, you're basically assured you can play anything made up to now.

I expect Sony to do the same as Microsoft, and eventually ban tricked consoles from their network at the very least.

Ultimately, now that the horse is out of the barn, it could just go as the PSP. Once Sony releases newer firmware, hackers can build a custom version for the tricked consoles. Don't forget the dongle lets you run unsigned code.

I can't wait to jailbreak my ps3. Just waiting for someone to have a way to do it with an IPod.

I want to have native MKV support, emulation and to put my games on my HD.

I'm not holding my breath on this but there's a group trying to use the PS3 controller as a way to jailbreak the PS3 by flashing the controller with the software required to do so. Anyway I found this kind of funny.

If you're thinking of jailbreaking your PS3, don't update the new firmware that Sony just put out. Apparently it's patching the exploit. I hope hackers start releasing some custom firmware (CFW).
