Trump rubbishes Ground Zero design

Unfortunately for the bouffant-haired property magnate and latterday reality TV star, the project to build a new tower on the site is not under his control. But that didn't stop him from unveiling his own project to fill the void at Ground Zero.
Speaking at the eponymous Trump Tower in Manhattan, Mr Trump said that his own design of a replica of the original towers, or even a park, was preferable to the Freedom Tower, the project currently envisaged for the site. The plan, said Mr Trump, not one to mince his words, "looks like a junkyard, a series of broken-down angles that don't match each other. And we have to live with this for hundreds of years? It is the worst pile of crap architecture I've ever seen in my life.
"Why are we building this monstrous skeleton known as the Freedom Tower?" he asked. "If the Freedom Tower is built, the terrorists win. If someone knocked down the Statue of Liberty, you wouldn't put the Eiffel Tower in its place." Although Mr Trump has no official role in the process, he does have one formidable weapon. "I only have the power of persuasion," he said. "It's a very simple power, but sometimes it can be very strong."
Keith Obermann had a good idea. Rebuild both towers much as they were before, but make one 2,983 inches shorter than other in honor of those who perished on 911.

The freedom tower does look like crap. They should rebuild the towers to look exactly the same from the outside. Use the modern building methods that have been developed since the original towers were built and fix the problems with the elevator locations and fireproofing. There is no greater " you!" to terrorists than after they went through all the trouble and effort of planning and carrying out the 9-11 attacks, to just rebuild everything back to they way it was. It would be as though 9-11 was erased.
Not a big fan of "The Donald", but I agree that the design they chose sucks. They've had enough problems with the design that hopefully they'll just scrap the whole thing and start over. I'm not opposed to something along the lines of the old Twin Towers, I think rebuilding the Twin Towers is a fitting memorial in itself. Sort of a "Gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there." kind of thing. Terrorists knocked them down, so we'll rebuild, stronger, safer, better and we wont be discouraged. Something like that, but almost anything is better then the "Freedom Tower".
Does anyone else think it looks like a big middle finger aimed across the ocean?

If there is one thing he knows how to build, its a tall-ass city building. I think he could do a great job as long as there are no casinos involved or modesty required.
I think rebuilding the originals would be great. Maybe a modern facade though (glass?)
They would have to change the way the building was built structurally. The small windows and steel columns that were the main part of the outside faces of the towers were actually the main support for the building. That is why it had lots of open floor space. It might be possible to change it using more modern construction methods.
I think some other points he brought up were great, namely finding tenants. He also said building a memorial park woudln't be a bad idea, and I'm actually all for that.
Either way, I'm not a fan of this design. It does look like .
