Coming from a cryptography background, I'd have to say this sounds like a huge security risk.
All hackers would have to do is design a box to "capture" your card ID, and they could go wild.
I'm gonna need to hear what kind of encryption they're going to use before I think this is anything other than a really bad idea.

The new payment method doesn't require a customer signature, making it more convenient and time-saving for consumers.
No signature or PIN at POS?![]()
Sounds like that Exxon Speedpass or the Tetco Tag.
Next they will have a system set up where all you have to do is tell them your name and birthday, then take your bags and go. Can't be wastin' time, we got reality TV shows to be watchin. No signature or PIN at POS?
next theyll need to make printers that allow you to print stuff off the internets on toilet paper so i can take some of aggie poospfan genius statements and wipe my furry ass with them
New Credit Cards you Wipe
Is that a cross between wave and swipe?![]()
I think the resident violent pussy needs to *get* some pussy.
Can you use it to buy a can of wipe ass?
You know, this would be a valid security concern if Americans actually cared about the security of their personal information and finances. They don't. Don't believe me? See the high incidence of iden y theft and the like.
according to money magazine the sources of id theft are as follows:
Lost or stolen wallet or credit card: 29%
family, friends, acquaintances: 11%
offline transaction: 9%
corrupt employee: 9%
stolen mail: 8%
spyware: 5%
dumpster diving: 3%
online transaction: 3%
virus/hacker: 2%
phishing: 2%
and 19% were unsure about the method or victimized in another way.
My Bank Of America checkcard was actually used illegaly this week down in Brazil. I hve no idea how they got my number becasue there are so many possible ways they could have gotten it. Restraunt, Bar employees. Bank Employees. Online. Although I doubt online because the only places I've used it have serious encryption.
Either way, it's been an inconvenience but not a big deal because I'm not liable for .
Manny, truth is there's a lot of stupid people out there who don't know enough about securing their information or don't have the common sense to do so.
I used to fix computers, and you'd be amazed at how easy it is to get stuff onto people's computers. Attach a virus to a stupid little executable with bunnies hopping across the screen, etc., and the majority of the middle-aged women in this country will send it around to their email lists like it's a wildfire.
Next they will put a chip in your arm.. then you do a force "jedi mindtrick" like swipe over the register at the store. .. Or a barcode on our arms for the laser lol.
Aggie,
Like I side, Americans don't care.
That would be so freakin sweet
Good point Manny, and I don't disagree with you. I hear a lot of idiots up here in _allas with the at ude "I've got theft protection, so who cares?"
I can't even begin to describe how lame that at ude is.
