I've been learning to play the drums for a few weeks and I'm thinking of investing in a drum set. I can't afford an acoustic one, so I'm going electric. I was wondering what kind of electronic drum set you guys would recommend for a $600 budget. I was thinking either a Roland HD-1 or a DTXplorer. Does anyone have any experience with either kit?

I know I've seen some decent acoustic drum sets for $600. My cousin is a lifetime drummer and he plays at Fiesta Texas park now, I'll ask him next time I see him. He also has an electronic one to practice with in house without being too noisy, pretty neat set up.

You can definitely get an acoustic set for $600. Electric kits are usually more expensive.
Since you're a beginner, just invest in an entry level kit until you've advanced.

I get a lot of stuff from this place. http://www.music123.com/Drums--Percu...e7DAA.category

Well, it's not just an economic issue. I'm in an apartment complex. I need something I can pick up skill with so long as it's not a total piece of .

You've been playing bass since you were 15 and you haven't figured out 5th, 7th and dim chords well enough to play guitar? The low four strings are the same but for an octave. Most songs use the same roots as the bassline.

    Are you like 17?

Hahahaha... I can play, just never owned a guitar, so I've never mastered it. I'm 34.

And Marini, the feel sound and playability of a set with skins is much different than an electric, but if you are in an apartment, then I guess it makes sense.
