you heard it here first. Get ready for a year of softness from Tiago. Dude might be softer than Dirk Noringski.

This is a reality check for delusional spur fan who thinks Splitter will be a monster. Wake up! dude is gonna get pushed around in this league

There's just something about Splitter that doesn't really do it for me, maybe is his Stiffler's resemblance.

I don't think he's soft. I don't feel he played soft either. It's a huge, huge game and when it got down to it, he didn't do anything to hinder Brazil on their chance to win. Had they of won, it would've been in spite of Barbosa's continued penchant for foolishness.

I don't think he's soft, he's just physically weak. He "only" weighs 235. Ultimately, I expect him to top out around 250, but that's not going to happen overnight.

But the main guys the Spurs need him to guard, Gasol, Nowitzki, Bosh, etc., aren't overpowering. He'll most likely have trouble when he has to guard Howard, Yao, Bynum, etc., though.

The good thing is Splitter won't have to do much to be the best big to play near Tim after David Robinson. Oberto, Nesterovic, Kurt Thomas, Nazr Mohamed, Dice nearing retirement, the bar is set really low.
Well there was Horry but that's a special case, playoffs/important games only.

Thats the problem. For years to come this board will keep comparing Splitter with Scola.

He definitely needs to bulk up. He looks lik a finess player right now. He's never going to be a bruiser though.

Splitter is not soft...it's just not the first time that "Splitter is soft" has been heard here.

Splitter backs off from being aggressive sometimes, probably to keep hiimself out of foul trouble.

Splitter should do pretty well in the Spurs system. He's never been an over-achiever but he is highly skilled. He didn't shine in the clutch versus Argentina but he typically hasn't been the kind of player that can take games over down the stretch. It certainly wasn't his role to do so in the WCs. He was a screen-setter, rebounder and post defender and that's what he did versus Argentina. He missed a contested shot inside down the stretch but he also made a couple of pressure FTs there in the 4th. He's careful maybe, but he's not soft.

He IS soft. But theres no need to hate him for that. He's great on many other areas where he IS a difference maker.

    I'm aware.

Splitter is somewhat caught between positions. The way the game is now, he's more of a center than a power forward, but he's not a true center and I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs use him as a power forward a lot, at least defensively.

As much as the Spurs need him to defend his rim, he's not a great shot blocker and his strength defensively is in his mobility (which the Spurs could also use). So against teams like the Lakers, Mavs and Heat, he'll probably end up guarding the power forward even while Duncan rests. McDyess, who's stronger, could end up guarding the center.

He's making 3 mil/year.... there is a reason he's making that much.... because that's what he is worth. He will be a solid role player.

Pau Gasol is soft and he transformed the Lakers from a mediocre to a championship team.

That is very faulty logic (see: Jefferson, Richard), but the point is the same. People have to temper their expectations. He is a solid player, not a Pau Gasol type player.

He is closer to Varejao than Pau. Which is not a bad thing for the Spurs.
