You guys are over reacting!so what if scola played better today.Scola is slightly above average in the NBA.He is not a franchise player and will never be.He is in his prime right now and at 30 he probably has 2 more years to go.Splitter is 25!thats 9 years younger than Duncan, 5 younger than scola.By the time he's 30 he'll probably be better than scola.Spurs did the right move.In 2007 we didnt need scola. He wouldve helped now but I doubt he wouldve helped us in 2008, 2009 or 2010 win a ring. He's not a difference maker.
Splitter will be fine. This guy is so young.Give him a chance.

    So what if he was?

What good does it do to about losing scola? Constantly rehashing that horse does no good nor does it make any point.

Rockets have Scola, Spurs have Splitter. Period. end of story. Splitter looks to be a good player and will fit in darn well.

splitter and scola arent the same player. splitter will look to be sort of a poor mans chandler when he was with the hornets. set screens roll, layup and rebound.

Now that's just stupid. If Splitter is a poor man's Chandler, then we're in trouble. You're insane if you think that Chandler could go to the European league and be considered their top player.

Who gives a . Splitter, at best, is going to be a good role player. Not sure why anyone would think anything else.. unless of course he's on your team which is case in point here. Seriously you guys are majorly setting yourselves up for disapointment.

Scola is impressive in international play. However, as a Spurs fan, I could care less about international play. I only care about the NBA and us winning.

Sure, Scola would have helped, but he was traded and that was that. But I'm not devestated like Cav fans when they lost Lebron. Scola is a fine NBA player, but he's no superstar. In fact, he's not even an all-star.

So while I think he would have been an excellent back-up to Tim Duncan and played well in the 15 or so minutes a game he averaged on the Spurs, I not heartbroken to see him put up decent numbers on a bad Rocket team that failed to make the playoffs.

I think it could be argued that losing Scola cost the spurs at least a championship if not two and cost them undisputed team of the decade honors as well as dynasty recognition that every spurs fan could have rubbed in the faces of the lakers and rest of league. Duncan and Scola would have been the most dominant front court in the league easily.

They basically had their cake right on the fork ready to eat but as they went to take a bite, they got a case of the nerves and let it wobble off.

What I don't understand is.....Manu wanted the talented Scola. Duncan was showing signs of slowing down and it was obvious he needed some help in the frontcourt. So the spurs go out and sign.. Matt Bonner?

I don't think Splitter wil be a dissapointing, the thing is that some posters need him to be better than Scola so they can take that splinter of their heads.
They are different player, evendoe they both can play PF and C, Splitter is more a traditional C and Scola is a PF. That, of course, resembles in their game, as Scola is more offensive oriented and Splitter is clearly balanced.
By no means Splitter will be an allstar his first year, but i think we can very well a 9/6 player with 25 minutes on the court which is fine for me and will help a lot as he will for sure have an over .500 shooting percentage.

Marc Gasol has played pretty porrly (by his NBA standards) in all but maybe 2 or 3 games... so that should be some sort of comfort for Spur fans... its a completely different game.

Having said that.. Scola is still a bit of a stud .. but just because he is putting up big numbers in these World Champs doesnt mean he is all of a sudden going to be some star in the NBA next season.. hes always been a superstar FIBA player - but his skillset/physical attributes only allow him to be a role player in the NBA - but a damn good one at that.

Splitter is better? Well, is it too much to ask that the Spurs trade him to the Hornets for some cap relief? I'll have to look at the salaries, but a deal can be made.

Not on a team that went 15-16 in those 31 games and was effectively eliminated from the playoffs halfway through those games.
