yeah.
Unsung Hero: Kevin Walter Proves His Worth
For the second time in franchise history, your Houston Texans are 2-0.
Wow, I didn't think that was possible during halftime of yesterday's game. For the first time in franchise history, the Texans won a game against the Redskins and in overtime. We're just a scant two games into the season, but the guys in Deep Steel Blue are knocking out a whole lot of franchise records and firsts. Next? The first 3-0 start in franchise history. Before we look ahead, let's take a look at the unsung hero of Week Two.
The unsung hero, based off of post-game reaction, is wide receiver Kevin Walter. Why Walter? Look after you leap to find the answers you seek.
This off-season, Kevin Walter received a five-year, $21.5 million deal. The deal was met with a mixed reaction. On one hand, Walter was the steady veteran who was dependable, and people were happy to see him be rewarded. On the other hand, many fans wanted to see Jacoby Jones get a chance to become the second wide receiver because he offered more big plays than Walter. No, this isn't an invitation to start the whole "Jacoby Debate" up again. This is about Kevin Walter - the man who definitely earned his paycheck with his performance yesterday.
Yesterday, Kevin Walter put up near-career highs with an 11 catch, 144 yard, and one touchdown performance. For those wondering, he was one catch and 16 yards shy of his career-best performance, which came against Jacksonville in 2007. Not only did Kevin put up big numbers, but he also made those catches when the Texans needed them the most.
The obvious statistic to start with is Walter's 11 receptions on 11 targets - better than Andre Johnson's 12 receptions on 17 targets or Jacoby's 6 catches on 9 targets. Six of those 11 catches went for first downs and a seventh went for his second touchdown catch of the season. With bad field positioning plaguing the Texans all game, Walter helped dig the Texans out of that hole as he was the recipient of six Matt Schaub passes when the Texans had the ball at or behind their own 35-yard line.
Kevin Walter didn't eat a left tackle on a BULL RUSH, nor did he block a field goal that kept hope alive. He didn't pull his own Willis Reed moment and return from injury to catch a game-tying touchdown on 4th-and-10. Kevin didn't put up a franchise record 497 passing yards or make a game-winning field goal. However, Kevin Walter definitely made big plays when the Texans needed them even if the post-game praise went to other, bigger names.
For his near-career best game, Kevin Walter is the unsung hero of Week Two, and I'm eating crow about how undeserving he was of that relatively big contract. Agree? Disagree? That's what the comments are for.

He deserves every penny of that contract. Here's to you, Kevin.

damn it'll be cool when houston loses so all these rocket fans can stop pretending to be football fans too
I'm twice the Texans fan than I am a Rockets fan. Not that it really matters.
In anticipation of Houston potentially improving this year, I had to mentally prepare myself for Rocket fan to sneak downstairs and start flexing nuts. It is what it is.
I can look on the bright side though...at least they aren't here when Houston is sucking too. Mikey has to deal with annoying Cowboy fan no matter how Dallas is doing.
At least you didn't use the term bandwagon, since it would have been too ironic considering the source of the post
lol djohn trying to talk in the nfl forum and expecting to be taken seriously
ps djohn the texans cant have a bandwagon since they've never made the playoffs
Like anyone takes YOU seriously. I like how you did that there
lol don't know how you got that out of me accusing you of being a bandwagonner, but it's kool that you put 2+2 together
oh djohn. you really got me there. i have the nfl forum so far underneath my thumb that i am able to pull like faking my own death after the super bowl and get away with it. ive been getting the bandwagoner comments since i started posting on spurstalk in 2006 so by all means continue. at this point it just makes you look like a dumbass.
Good work J.T.![]()
you know djohn sucks when red forman comes out of retirement to laugh at him getting owned
yea, cuz there's nothing like faking your own death to make u seem cool on the internetz
Back to the topic, Walter is an excellent #2 WR
the point of faking my death wasnt to seem cool on the internet, it was the greatest form of payback for every other got on this forum that hides after a big loss, but since being cool on the net is what you dream about every night, i can see how you'd put 2+2 together
I agree.
J.T. is an NFL forum OG. He is good purple in my book.
Isn't the unoffical texan thread the appropriate place to post sucking articles like this in?
Old man, next time put like this in the appropriate thread. Thanks in advance.
lol J.T. getting owned in every thread
lol My NFL forum
lol getting butthurt when i called him out about posting while watching the game
LMAO MIA after super bowl and starts making excuses
Kevin Walter>>>Vince Young. If someone who sucks and gets benched gets his own thread then there is no reason a solid contibutor like Walter can't have his own.
i think its hilarious that kamikazi_player and djohn think my fake death episode wasn't an elaborate trolljob and that i was legitimately hiding from the nfl forum to escape from "LMAO COLTS"
i'd probably still not be posting here and viewing the inevitable "rip JT" thread someone would have made about me under a troll name and laughing my ass off at all of you like i did when yall made the "what happened to jt?" thread if atrain actually had some balls and didnt give in when kori badgered him about the truth.
ATRAIN can't keep a secret at all. He told me it was a prank the day that was posted. He just said his typical, "lol don't tell anyone lol".
Fat er with his overuse of lol.
Just next time man up next time so we won't be making fun of you and listen to your excuses.
lol rip JT thread
lol butthurt still
lol, i hope colts don't make the superbowl or lose or else you make another excuse of why you don't show up.
