On a French Sport TV Show, Tony Parker announced he will play at Euro 2011 in Lithuania next summer.
“If I’m not hurt, I’ll be there (at Euro 2011). I have already warned the Spurs. We spoke with Ronny (Turiaf) and Joakim (Noah). We’ll all be there to try to go to the London Olympics.
We all know we don't like our stars playing international ball in the summer and would rather they stayed healthy and fresh to chase an NBA championship. He has said he has "warned" the spurs that he will be playing the next few summers at euro 11 and london olypics. He sounds pretty blunt about it.
So my question is. Is tony purposely pissing off the Spurs Front Office?? If so, what's the motive? To me, the spurs are the employer and tony is the employee, he shouldn't be warning them about anything and risking the spurs multi million dollar investment in TP.
What do you guys think about the situation?
Thanks Dex. Didn't realise it had been posted somewhere else already. Sorry guys
tony is probably heading to LA soon I guess. a triangle trade including lakers spurs and nuggets would do alot good to all these 3 teams involved imho. spurs get melo who they have been drooling heavily over, and the nuggets receive bynum and picks and some expirings which give them financial relief. playing in LA tony will afford more time to spend with his old wife, and it's not news that eva longoria wants her young husband to play in a bigger city so the couple can spend more time together.
How about another way of looking at it:
If Parker is "warning" the Spurs that he's going to play next summer, that means the door isn't completely closed on his coming back to the team. He will be a free agent next summer, right? If he didn't bother telling the Spurs anything, that would be a pretty decent sign that he's not even entertaining the idea of coming back.
I'll add this to what O_V said.
We have an internet posting of a Tony Parker quote. A quote that was given in French and translated by someone into English. We don't know his voice inflection or facial expression. Most importantly, we don't know the French verb he used that has been translated into "warn". It is entirely possible that a more accurate translation would be "advise" or "notify", both of which would be consistent with his public position on the subject since May. I'm content to wait until one of the French posters provides an accurate translation before I read anything more into this quote.
. . . I'd be worried about getting pissed on.
Lousy le OP. Besides, Manu already beat him to announcing that he's planning on being in London for 2012.
Whoa that means france could have a pretty sick team... imagine Noah, Turiaf, Diaw, Pietrus, and Parker..... damn, that's a decent lineup right there.
Don't forget about Ian! Dayum!![]()
You've already skimmed the prime cream off this Parker fellow, and quite some time ago. It wouldn't be to your detriment to let him drift away quietly.
No muss/No fuss.
First, the sentence is mistranslated. Tony said "Je l'ai déjà dit aux Spurs."
One can translate it as "I've already told it to Spurs" the "it" refers to the fact that he will play next summer with FNT.
Second, there isn't some kind of dark goal behind Parker talking about FNT. He is currently in France. French medias don't care about Spurs, they care about FNT. When TP is interviewed, they always asked him about FNT.
good point bruno - in fact the verb "dire" literally means "to say", even though it can be interpreted depending on context. however, it does not appear to me that he has negative feelings towards the spurs.
Semantics.
"Warn" would have been "mis en garde".
That would have been aggressive.
But "dire" is pretty direct.
Basically, he cares zero of what the Spurs might say about the subject. And it has no implications as to whether he extends or moves on.
Personally, I think that if there is a chance to obtain Anthony through a 3 ways trade that include Parker and Jefferson, that should be pursued.
Why all the panic lately on the forum about Parker saying again that he wants to go to eurobasket. He always said he would go to Eurobasket, already last April or may when he was questioning his chances to play at this WC he said; Im not playing this WC, but of course I'll be part of Eurobasket again in 2011.
Of course, as long as he can play, he is standard part of the French NT. And he should, it's his choice and it's normal to do so.
It's not like we didnt know. So why the astonishment?
Yeah, that's a pretty solid team.
They've had good players in the past, and they still don't do . Tony himself has called them selfish.
Thanks, Bruno.
So, nothing new here. The same answer to the same question from May until now. Same with Manu. Both have notified/informed/advised/told the Spurs that they will be playing with their respective NTs in 2011 and 2012.
pretty much
His father is french and his mother is swedish
You think you know french so well huh?

Think much hullabaloo is being made about nothing. As already posted, isn't Manu playing for his national team in the coming yrs?
Trade his ass right now![]()
