Interesting video to watch.. didn't expect him to say what he said. I think this is a part of some campaign. There are a variety of "suggestions" that say the same "it gets better" message.
Very long. Very difficult to listen to. Most people won't, I think, and that's okay. I'm hesitant to post it because i'm afraid it'll just turn into a debate thread, but I think all of us could be reminded to use common compassion when having gay political arguments.

It would also be helpful to speak to the bullies and bigots out there, especially by straight people, in a way that educates them and gets to the root of their hatred.
It sounds as if that councilman almost offed himself at 13 years old-but he didn't want to publicly say it.

And the pussyfication of America and society in general continues. Gay people need to stand up to bullies and fight them off.
Just popularize a "Beat the out of Bullies" movement.
Turn the first day of school into a "Find a White Knight day" and partner up.
The amount of gay suicides among teens and young adults is alarming of late, there's no doubt stuff has to be done.
Kids make fun of differences. No matter what they are. End of story.

America has historically been slow on social rights. This is not new.
Actually, it is not anything at all like not letting an ethnically diverse group of people marry. It's a social intolerance more akin to religious or political intolerance than it is to racial intolerance, because sexuals are not unified under a visible diversity such as race or gender. The only valid point you made was with the Athiests.
