it's gotta be done. he's been horrible. i can't believe people think hill is an adequate replacement for tony.
Hill seems to be struggling coming off the bench. He performs much better as a starter and Manu performs either way. So should George start and should Manu come off the bench?

Whatever works. Well see more once the real season starts
Our entire bench seems to suck when they first come in. Manu would fix that in a hurry.
dude, percentage-wise, ginobili has not shot the ball a lot better than hill in the preseason. they both can drive and get to the ft line; however, gino is the better passer. i think we will spend at least 10 games with this starting unit b4 any changes occur.
"Hey, this guy is sucking. Let's make him a starter!"
Dumbest ing logic ever.
Stop sucking, George.
It makes sense.
Hill was having a so-so year last year until he was put in the starting lineup than he really started to improve. Hill's 3 pt shot also seems to have gone down the drain since he's moved to the bench.
George Hill sucks at preseason basketball, I'm not going to lose sleep at night over it. He'll be ready when the season starts next game.
you do have a point.
True. Also I kind of like that we don't have to rely on Manu so much to produce while he's out there in the beginning and he can save a little of that energy for later.dude, percentage-wise, ginobili has not shot the ball a lot better than hill in the preseason.
George_Hill3 George Hill
Upset wit my shoot so headin to gym to tune it up.. Preseason over. Gotta be apart of this special team we have #GoSpursGo
This.
Another year of starting someone to "build their confidence". Can we please KEEP Ginobili in the starting lineup where he belongs for one friggin season?
Parker-Hill-Jefferson-Blair-Duncan
Two undersized players in the same starting lineup, don't look so good.
And later play some smallball or microball. NO, THIS IS A NIGHTMARE.
George just has to get used to carrying the offense instead of feeding off others.Hopefully Tiago will alleviate some of the pressure once he returns.
I'd like to see him start but I'd just like him to get a solid amount of minutes, thats enough
I'm sure there will be some experimentation by Pop as usual. Whatever works best will be the lineup we will eventually use. I do think Hill needs to step up his game if he doesn't want to loose minutes to our other young guards. (Last season we had RMJ as the main option...).
I don't think it's related to starting or not, George just doesn't seems to have found his range/rythm yet, the season hasn't start yet, no reason to panic...
BUT, I'm a bit concerned about how he is going to handle his new "statut", he was runner up for 6thman of the year, and the next step is... allstar?
I'm afraid he is going to put too much pressure on himself, trying to do too well. I hope not.
This year will probably show us if he is allstar material or "just" a very good versatil role player. (whitch would be great too!)
I can't wait...
BTW, at least there won't be any "start Hill over Parker" streads for at least a week or two...![]()
Hill's going to be fine... relax.
If Spurs had a top wing defender in the league, they could afford to have Manu on the bench. they don't so they need to compensate with going for offense.
BTW it exists the same kind of risk with TP. I think timvp already wrote about that, TP is highly motivated to show the world that his former self is back, I hope he won't try to do too much.
Hill takes Ginobili's sixth-man guidance
By Jeff McDonald
Despite a clank-infested preseason in which Hill missed 30 of 39 shots and missed 15 of 16 on 3-pointers, Popovich remains confident he can bring instant offense to the Spurs' bench.
“Off the bench, you want guys to come in and add something pretty quickly,” Popovich said. “In George's case, he's pretty good at both ends of the floor. He's going to be important to us off the bench.”http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/s...wFullArticle=y“Sometimes he's going to start, and sometimes he's going to come from the bench,” Ginobili said. “Either way, George is going to be a great player for us.”
Love hearing this. Love accountability in players.
At some point Pop is going to to stop ing with the lineup to make up for player deficiencies, pick a horse and run with it. The bench is just going to have to step up and play. No excuses. The starters are going to have to play like a well-oiled machine. If you go with your best players starting, you have to give your bench an advantage.
There were so many lineup changes last season it was comical, but I think it was extremely detrimental to Hill and Jefferson (and Blair, to a lesser degree). Hill got a little full of himself in the first round of the playoffs last season and fell pretty hard in the second.
If there have to be changes this season, it should only be one minor tweak at a time. Manu is the obvious choice to swap out, but I would really like to him start. In fact, I think the starting unit should be built around Ginobili. George is just going to have to grow up and become the leader of the 2nd unit. Pop has coddled him too long. It's tough love time.
Hill definitely works his ass off but what he hasn't worked on is the mental approach to the game. I'm not sure how he's going to make the next step, but lifting more weights and living in the game hasn't helped so far. Pop's overanalytical schemes tend to make some players intellectualize the game to an extent that it inhibits their natural instincts. This may be happening with Hill.
