Here is the original pledge:
I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Written by a socialist.

It also called for this salute:

that was a quick kill........don't you agree, darrin?
Do you admire his sweepingly idiotic generalizations? Are you tickled by his complete lack of critical or original thought? Do you just love youtube videos? DarrinS ladies and gents. The one and only. A true idiot, standing up for the viewing pleasure of rubes everywhere. He'll be here all month.
Didn't this happen in 2002? Have you been waiting for the video all this time?
It seems funny that a Baptist minister wouldn't include the words "under God" in a pledge he composed, but it probably isn't.
It is funny that the usage of "under God" that was tacked on over 60 years later and over 20 years after the author's death is probably grammatically incorrect.
I don't really have a problem with the pledge, but if I had a choice I would much rather be pledging allegiance to the cons ution than to the flag - seems a little more important and substantial:
I pledge allegiance
to the cons ution
of the Unitied States of America.
And to the Republic
created by its prose.
One nation, united,
with liberty and justice for all.
Wow, this is ALL OVER the internet today.

A video from 2002. Gosh, do you think this might be some kind of organized viral campaign? I wonder if she's in a heated contest for re-election?
Get outraged!!! Rabble rabble rabble rabble
A loyalty oath is for feudal vassals not free republican citizens. We can probably do without it.
Agreed. I stopped saying the pledge in elementary school when I learned the definition of "pledge" and remembered we're a free country.
It's fair to apply to military or the government, but not really to the general citizenry.
Way to do your part DarrinS. Your support for the Team is appreciated.
Sure. Agree 100%.
Public service involves a oath of honor.
This guy knows what the pledge means.
Damn. Dems really hate the Pledge.
My Patriotism is bigger than yours!
Good lord...you're really reaching now...
It is kind of stupid when you think about it -- pledging loyalty to a piece of cloth.
And the Cons ution is just a piece of paper.
Are you loyal to a piece of cloth, Darrin?
Yes or no.
The Cons ution is a do ent of fundamental ideas and rules whose purpose is to protect the freedoms of the citizens of this country. In THEORY, as long as the Cons ution is not changed or diverted from, our freedoms and our way of life in this country remain protected.
The flag is a symbol. It can stay the same regardless of what rights and liberties are protected for us. We could fall to Fascists or Communists and the flag could remain exactly as it is now. It holds no power and does not inherently protect any of our liberty.
The Pledge is basically indoctrination to mindless patriotism. It's not really harmful, but it's not necessarily valuable either except as a hot button for people who want to bicker about how and when it is performed every, oh, two years around this time.

Darrin pledges unwavering fealty to a poly-cotton blend.
darrin types with his hand over his heart.
More accurately over his shirt, to which he also declares his fidelity and obedience.
