    ...Notre Dame $120 million dollars!

Gifts to Notre Dame plunged $120M during year of Obama’s appearance

He may actually reach George W. Bush's approval rating lows in record time. It took nearly 8 years of a relentless liberal machine to bring W's down. Obama is pretty much doing this all on his own. Quite an achievement.

The decline in donations largely coincided with the late-2000s recession, which officially began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009.

I'd like to see if other similar universities saw giving cut in half during the same time period.

Private Giving to Colleges Dropped Sharply in 2009

With a battered economy and volatile financial markets taking their tolls on donors' pocketbooks, private giving to American colleges dropped sharply in 2009, according to findings of the annual Voluntary Support of Education survey, which were released on Wednesday. Donations were down $3.75-billion from the previous year—a decline of 11.9 percent, the steepest in the survey's 50-year history.
Notre Dame's 50% cut in donations is a bit steeper than the average of 11.9%, wouldn't you say?

Maybe it wasn't just the economy.

There are obviously more variables to be considered. Implying Obama cost Notre Dame $120M is just ludicrous. Besides, it's not like he forced himself there. He was invited and accepted. Blame Notre Dame.

Obviously, many of their donors did.

Oh, and here's a math lesson for you. $347M to $226M is not a 50% drop, try less than 35%.

    Read the story.
During the July 2008 - June 2009 fiscal year, gifts to the university totaled $226,689,374, including $60,133,035 in government grants. During the July 2007 - June 2008 fiscal year, in contrast, gifts totaled $347,155,514, including $62,241,121 in government grants. Thus most of the decline in contributions consisted in a decline in private donations rather than a drop in government funding.
Remove the static grant and do the math, it's an over 41% reduction in private donations.

Considering Obama and his war chest aren't on TV all the time telling us about the bloodthirsty killers waiting to attack us for how we live, it doesn't surprise me the Sheeple focus all their fears on Obama rather than the boogeymen in the middle east. It took 8 years of the truth coming to light that hurt W's legacy, not some liberal smear machine.

charitable giving is DOWN EVERYWHERE, has been for 2-3 years, and will continue to be down.

The only sector with excess cash is the finance sector, and they're greedy bas s.

As always, Yoni/right-wing "attacks" are always bad-faith distortions, slander, lies, not good-faith honest, constructive criticisms.

I would not say, because not only can I do math, I can read and I have a calandar.

During the July 2008 - June 2009 fiscal year

Sorry, Charlie. (at the risk of dating my old ass)

To really, truly compare the % drops you would have to get either the same fiscal year, or get month to month data.

You are highly unlikely to find either, although you could probably massage the 2007-2009 annual data and make some reasonable assumptions to sort of get close, but even then it would be something of a tenous kluge.

Dow Jones Industrial Average, July 1, 2008:
    11,288.53

Dow Jones Industrial Average, June 30, 2009:
    8,447.00

Low between those two dates, (weekly adj close):
    6,626.94 Week of Mar 2, 2009
High between those two dates, (weekly adj close)
    11,734.32 Week of Aug4 , 2008

    http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=%5ED...=30&f=2009&g=w

Total decline of DJIA over that period from beginng of period to end:
    -26%

Total difference from high to low during that period:
    -44%

That was pretty much THE height of the financial crisis.

Given that the majority of catholics in this country vote Democratic, is it more probable that it was the financial crisis or Obama's visit?
