Isiah Thomas believes that, with or without LeBron James, he will someday help the Knicks win their first NBA le since 1973, writes Ian O'Connor. Interview
When Thomas took over the Knicks in 2003 he had planned to bring LeBron James to Madison Square Garden in free agency this past summer. But in 2008, Thomas lost his jobs as president and coach of the Knicks.
Now, he is coaching college basketball at Florida International, just down the road from where James plays with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat.
"I do find it ironic that we all ended up here in Miami instead of us all ending up in New York," Thomas said. "But it's a four-year deal."
It will be four years before James can opt out on the Heat.
Asked if he hopes to replace Donnie Walsh whenever the 69-year-old Knicks president retires, Thomas said, "Every single day of the week."
"When I look at my GM/executive record, if I'm evaluated on that, then whoever's after Donnie, if you're not talking about some of the top people in the game, I'll put my draft evaluation record up against anyone's."

this dudes doesnt deserve to be anywhere near Madison Square Garden, He should be on a restraining order for what he has done to the knicks, turning one of the most proud franchise into the laughing stock of the league in a matter of 3 years.
I think he would be taken out if he really gets the job back, because there are some really HARDCORE knick fans out there.
Its pretty crazy that an NBA team that plays in New York City has been for this many years. They dont even look like a playoff team with Amare, ill be surprised if they win 45 games this season.

The Knicks roster (or at least the starting 5) is not half bad
The problem is d'Antoni
He sucks major donkey ass
45 wins in the East could get them the 5th seed. Remember the last few seasons, the bottom playoff seeds in that conference have had .500 records or worse. That Knicks team doesn't look that bad. Felton is serviceable and Wilson Chandler and Toney Douglas have been good role players off the bench. D'Antoni is playing Amare more at PF so at least he isn't getting always over-matched by legit centers. They're not really a good team and won't make a deep run, but in the East, they look every bit a playoff team.
As for Zeke, he does not want for confidence. What a delusional he's become. He might not have been the only reason the Knicks are the disaster they've been for so long, but he's one of the main ingredients. He should just shut the up and concentrate on how to make enough NCAA violations to make his college team relevant.

But they still are way better than when under Isaiah. They are on the right path, and look way better than the Bulls.
Now the Bulls, who play in Chicago look like damn crap.

Isiah always planned on LeBron? That's why it was a minor miracle when Walsh was able to undo what Isiah did and clear enough cap space to make offers? And that's why it cost NY just about every draft pick for the next decade to do it? Beacuse Isiah always planned on bringing LeBron to NY?

40-45 wins would be a good start but they play in the biggest city in the country so the fans expect more. The management has failed them big time. They might end up sneaking into the playoffs cuz the bottom half of the east is garbage but no way in does anyone view them as a threat. Like someone said, they basically risked everything in hopes of getting Lebron but ended up paying Amare 100 million. We'll see what they can do in the next 2-3 years though. If they could get a Melo or CP3 type of player it would be big for them. Chicago needs a reilable SG & Boozer will help them a lot when he returns.

40-45 wins looks fantastic for a team in any city when they've averaged 32-33 wins (and won only 2 playoff games) over the last decade. Signing Amare to $100 million >>> getting no one after LeBron, Wade, and Bosh rejected them. Better if they went the route of the Nets and spent $60 million on Travis outlaw, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, and Jordan Farmar? Maybe you think so. Amare gives them a very good (though flawed) front court scorer and a name. And he does seem to be at least a piece that "might" draw either or both Carmelo and CP3. That in itself would make Amare worth that contract. They had to do something.
